Campus Crusade for Christ Vision Tea 2004
Vision Tea is an annual event organized to welcome freshmen into Campus Crusade for Christ, a worldwide Christian organization. It is a time of reflection, of fellowship and of re-commitment of one's life to God.
The same theme runs through both of the designs that I proposed to the committee: looking at one thing and seeing another. The idea of vision has been represented by a lens.
In the first, the image of a hand holding a pair of binoculars the wrong way round invites the viewer to become part of the picture, engaging him or her in the process of viewing a diminished - instead of magnified - image of the mountains in the background. A mountain range was chosen as the object of viewing, as the lofty mountain summit is an appropriate image to complement the name of the event.
The second design plays on a simple shift in perspective - do you see the reflection at the surface of a cup of tea, or do you see part of a bigger picture i.e. the lens of a binoculars?
Of the two, the second one was eventually selected for its simplicity and greater clarity in conveying the message.
