Peninsula
Yacht Sales is responding to our Cabo boat owner’s desire to form a
multi-use boating club. In shopping for and talking with Cabo customers
we saw a strong desire for a tight-knit relationship between Cabo
owners so we formed Club Cabo.
Locations
and events for the club reflect our many years of boating in the Channel
Islands and we have set event dates based on prevailing and historical
weather patterns with alternate dates in case of weather cancellations.
Club
Cabo events are exclusively for members and their guests though guest boats
are welcome. Our primary focus is for Club Cabo to be for Cabo boat owners.
Open yacht events can be managed but speeds varying from 6 knots to 30
knots set a lot of limits.
We
plan on making club events multi-skilled and family friendly by utilizing
our local habitat and inshore fisheries. Proposed halibut, salmon,
rockfish, mako and thresher shark events should provide low weather exposure
and challenges for all skill levels.
Offshore
events have potentially heavy weather conditions that will test the
endurance of our more salty members. These fishing events will base out of
Channel Islands and Ventura harbors with options to move our fleet to
harbors closer to the fishing grounds. Fishing events are best three
days before the full moon and the two days following.
Club
Cabo outings will include fishing the outer banks (averaging 100 miles from
both Ventura county harbors). Proposed itineraries include leaving
Ventura harbor about noon and running to the nearest safe anchorage for a
nice dinner. But that doesn’t mean we won’t stop for fish breaking or to
bait tailing marlin. Fishing starts the next morning at daylight.
After
fishing all day the group travels to Catalina Island’s Avalon Harbor or
Long Point Harbor on the north side of Catalina Island west of Avalon. For
Avalon we either go to the Galleon for dinner or take a nice fillet of tuna
to Descanso Beach and BBQ. Descanso Beach is an easy dinner option
with its open-air bar and BBQ's ready for our use (including utensils).
The site comes complete with salads and side dishes. And yes, they do
cleanup.
Club
Cabo members meet at the foot of the pier the next morning for bacon and
eggs before we set sail home for arrival about noon. These have always been
good trips for us and were easy enough to make them very enjoyable for all.
Our
members also have the option to change out target fish on any event due to
unforeseen migratory fish passing through our fishing grounds and regulation
changes both locally and offshore.
Planned
social events allow members to get acquainted and talk boats and fishing.
These are primarily half-day harbor events. We will also use these events to
introduce prospective and new members.
Peninsula
Yacht Sales/ Captain Dave and Brian will be happy to answer questions and
help with your boat rigging needs and assist in shaping your boating and
fishing skills.
We
hope every member will help with our ideas for events and scheduling. If you
would like to sponsor a social at your boat or home please call our office.
