Africa's first white tiger cubs born
Three white tiger cubs with blue
eyes and chocolate-brown stripes were born at a South African wildlife
ranch last Wednesday, the first such cubs to be born in Africa,
which has no indigenous tigers, the Star newspaper reported on Monday.
The cubs, two males and a female, are about the size of a full-grown
cat."They are suckling and they are with their mother, Cher,
in her den," said Jenny Schmidt, spokesperson for the Cango
Wildlife Ranch outside Oudtshoorn. The ranch will ask South
Africa's Hindu Council to suggest names for them.
White tigers are genetic throwbacks White tigers were once
found in the wild in India, but have been hunted to extinction there,
the Star said. They are genetic throwbacks, not a distinct species,
and therefore do not qualify for any endangered list. They differ
from albino tigers, which have red eyes and no stripes. About 250
white tigers are in captivity around the world, the newspaper said.

The picture
above [of the lovely little tiger that I scanned] doesn't have much
to do with South Africa or Africa but I couldn't resist including
it on my site. The image was in a magazine, being sold on collector
plates. I have looked all over the Internet trying to find the name
of the artist who painted this, with no success.
Coming
soon, the only links I found.
