The
Rushville Band competed against 114 marching bands
from
several states. The band was awarded a superior
plus
rating for uniform & instrument inspection, street
marching
competition and field marching competition.
The
group was judged "best out-of-state band" at the
University
Of Colorado Band Day.

Upon
returning from Boulder a large group of parents
and
community members met the buses a few miles from
Rushville
and gave us all a grand
"WELCOME
HOME CHAMPS!"

The
1964 Rushville Band was made up of students in grades 7 - 12.
The
band numbered 60 students for this competition. Our band
began
marching rehearsals the first week in August, practicing
twice
a day preparing for three August parades and learning our
first
two football "halftime shows." All marching music was performed
from
memory, with a different field show each home football game.
The
fundamentals we learned applied to street & field marching with
emphasis
upon marching in step, straight ranks, files, & diagonals,
uniform
instrument carriage, personal carriage, step length & style,
guiding
right, left, & ahead, horns up & down together, toe style
marching
to a rapid drum cadence. Each uniform was individually
fitted
by the uniform committee, each uniform being worn with PRIDE.
The
Rusville Public Schools and the Community Of Rushville strongly
backed
the entire music program making band participation one of the
most
desired musical activities within the school.
