Foundation Squirrel Dogs

Since I have just begun with treeing feist I have decided to try to build on the Kemmer and Sport lines of treeing feist. These lines of feist have been crossed before with good results, BB being and example. My pup named Trigger is Sport bred. My next pup(hopefully)will be out of Tinzie(pure kemmer)and BB(1/2kemmer-1/2sport). They are pictured below. Also pictured below is Pocket which is the old Kemmer Feist that is behind them both.

LOST CREEK TINZIE

Tinzie pictured above with Delane Widener(trying to make her smile). Tinzie's sire was PeeWee, a son of Pocket and Rat. Tinzies dam was Lucy, a daughter of Pocket and Ledbetters Cassie. Tinzie is linebred pure Kemmer feist. Her grandsire is Pocket on both sides.

LOST CREEK B B

Above is BB. BB's sire was Cody(Sport bred)and his dam was Rat(Kemmer bred). BB is the result of crossing the Sport line with the Kemmer line of feist. 9/2/03 update. I am going out on a limb here. I have tried to tell about the dogs I am using and why I choose them. I don't normally recommend dogs but I do recommend that anyone getting into feist or interested in a pup take serious notice of BB. I don't own a hair on him but have worked a couple of pups out of him and worked a full sister too him. BB is for real and is producing some for real squirrel dogs. I think he may be one of the best producers of squirrel dogs in existence today. He is young and has only been bred a few times but his pups will speak for themselves I believe.

LOST CREEK POCKET

This is Pocket, the old Kemmer feist. Pocket was bred by Robert Kemmer and is owned by Mack Ledbetter. Pocket is still living. His dam was Kemmers Cassie. Cassie was a daughter of Yellow Jack. Kemmers Cassie was 1/2 cur and 1/2 feist. Yellow Jack was a Mountain Cur and is in the background of nearly every Kemmer Cur today. Years ago Kemmers Cassie was used as one of the foundation females to build the strain that was called the Cajun Squirrel Dogs. Pocket has an interesting background to say the least and this kind of history can get confusing.

One of the points that I am trying to get across is that many of these dogs have common ancestors both cur and feist. Many questions arise as to what kind of dogs are in the background of todays squirrel dogs. Some of us don't really want to know. Our egos can get in the way and sometimes we don't want to admit what the record shows. I have heard that Robert Kemmer says his old line of feist had Cur, Fox Terrier and Old Timey Mt. Feist. I don't have a problem with that. There is going to be a lot of old Pockets blood in the foundation stock that I am going to start with. I believe that Mack Ledbetter and Delane Widener have more pure Kemmer feist in their kennel than anyone. There will be some Sport blood in my future feist too. As soon as I research the Sport background a little more I will add it to this site.
DISCLAIMER
I have stated the background on these dogs as best I can at this time. There will always be some disagreement as to bloodlines if you research it back far enough. There will be some who will say that pure Kemmer Feist have no cur in them and that may or may not be true. I have not spoken to Robert Kemmer personally on the subject. It doesn't matter as far as I am concerned. The bottom line as far as I am concerned is what you like. If a dog does what you want it to do and looks like you want it to look then it doesn't matter if it is cur, feist or mutt or a mixture of them all. This is my opinion and my opinion only.
