4/16/04-Here is a litter of 4 month old pups giving a cage squirrel a hard time. The red and white pup on the right is Emma. Right after I took this pic I took Emma and the squirrel to get some more pics. The following is a sequence of pics I took of Emma on her first cage squirrel.
Squirrel is hanging up the tree Emma is fixin to tree on. I thought Emma was going to just start hammering on this hang up squirrel. Had no idea she would climb. When she dug her toes into this leaning tree I didn't think she would be able to get up it but,
Emma done got up in the tree smelling right on up it. She didn't know at this point she was higher than the squirrel.
Now Emma done found the squirrel and now gotta figure out how to get to it.
Now I am starting to worry about Emma maybe might fall out of the tree.
Emma never did seem to worry about the position she got herself into. I tried to call her down but she wasn't about to leave that squirrel so I had to climb up and get her down.
6/1/04 age 5 1/2 months. This litter is proving to be exceptional. This picture is Emma and a littermate sister(up on the tree). The pups in this picture are in a small training pen, 20x40. I feed the squirrels and the pups don't seem to have much else to do but tree.
These pups are sired by a brother to Mack Ledbetters male named BB. Their mama is out of Delane Wideners Cody male and Lavan McDaniels Little Bit Too female. I am so far more than pleased with this cross. If nothing don't happen I will make the same cross again. There just ain't many crosses that come into the world doing what these do and hate a squirrel much as these do. As of now 4/16/04 I am 3 years into trying to put together a pen of Treeing Feist Squirrel Dogs. I am where I want to be and furthur along than I thought I would be at this point. Hats off to Mack Ledbetter, Delane Widener, Lavan McDaniels, Doug Cox, Robert Kemmer and others who owned, hunted and bred the Feist Dogs that are in the background of this litter of pups.
