A young interracial couple move into their new home in Los Angeles and find that it isn't the dream they thought it would be. Chris (Patrick Wilson) and Lisa Mattson (Kerry Washington) find that their new neighbor, Abel Turner (Samuel L Jackson), is a police officer and self appointed protector of the neighborhood. In the beginning Abel seems friendly enough but it soon becomes apparent that he doesn't seem to approve of the new couple, perhaps because of their actions in the new neighborhood or perhaps out of disapproval of their relationship. The Mattsons determine not to take Abel's increasing harrassment lying down, and things get a little out of control.
