Trevor Reznik (Christian Bale), a factory-employed machine operator, has been inexplicably unable to sleep for a year. His constant fatigue and gaunt condition lead not only to his role in a devastating accident to a fellow worker (Michael Ironside) but also to a series of increasingly disturbing hallucinations. Shortly after the accident, Trevor meets a new worker at the factory, a man with his own physical deformity named Ivan (John Sharian), who suspiciously begins showing up everywhere Trevor goes. Trouble is, no one else has ever seen or heard of anyone named Ivan. To compound his confusion, Trevor begins receiving a series of mysterious post-it notes on the refrigerator in his own apartment. Who is leaving these notes? Is someone perpetrating a plot against him? Is it Ivan? Is everyone in on it? Can he trust anyone? Trevor’s search for the truth leads him to answers he might never have imagined, and possibly never wanted to face.
