All of the sudden she disappears.
Just yesterday she was here.
Somebody tell me if I am sleeping.
Someone should be with me here.

“I’m glad you’re back in the city,” Brian said wrapping his arm around Ruby’s shoulders.

“Me too,” Ruby smiled weakly and crossed her arms over her chest as they walked down third avenue.

“Maybe we could pick up right where we left off,” he said in her ear as they came to 9th street where Ruby’s dorm was.

“I don’t know, Brian,” she told him reaching in her purse for her security key card. “Like I said at dinner, I have a lot of stuff on my mind.”

“Well how about I come upstairs with you and we can relax?” He proposed rubbing her shoulder.

“No, I um, I have work early in the morning. I’m just going to get ready for bed,” she said backing off of his advances.

“Alright,” he held his hands up in defense. “No pressure. But give me a call, okay?”

“Sure,” she smiled. “Thanks for dinner.”

“Hey, anytime,” he said going in for a hug.

“Goodnight,” she said wrapping her arms around his torso.

“Night,” he said releasing her. She turned around letting herself into the building. She dropped her purse by her side and lazily made her way to the elevator.

“Ruby, hey,” Paul from the building greeted meeting her at the elevator.

“Hey Paul,” she smiled waiting for it to come down. “How are you?”

“Good. How’s the internship going?” He asked.

“Oh it’s awesome,” she nodded. “What about yours? How’s Wall Street?”

“It’s.... there,” he laughed stepping in the elevator as it opened. “Not all that exciting so far.”

“Well it’ll get better,” she said pushing the button for the 8th floor.

“So you look nice. Date?” He asked putting his hands in the pockets of his jeans.

“Oh thanks,” she smiled. “Yeah, Brian from school. But it’s no big deal.”

“Cool. Well I’ll see you around. We should get together sometime,” he said getting out at the 5th floor.

“Yeah,” she nodded. “See ya.”

“Later,” he said as the doors closed. Ruby let out a deep breath and leaned her head against the cold stainless steel wall of the elevator.

“Zac, I can’t handle U2 anymore,” Taylor groaned coming into Zac’s room. “You can’t keep listening to this CD, it’ll drive you crazy.”

“I’m already crazy,” he dryly stated lying on his back on the floor of his bedroom with his feet on the bed.

“Man, I don’t wanna be a jerk,” Taylor said sitting on the couch. “But it’s been a while since Ruby left. It’s time to move on.”

“It’s been two weeks, Tay.”

“Well there’s a ton of girls out there. What about Ansley? Why don’t you give her a call?” Taylor suggested.

Zac shrugged. “I don’t know.”

“Well you can’t make Ruby come back. So what are you gonna do?”

“This talking on the phone bullshit is driving me crazy cause everything we talk about is just a front so we don’t have to talk about how much we miss eachother. And the thought of her dating someone else makes me sick,” Zac ranted. “I don’t know what to do.”

“Is she dating someone else?” Taylor asked.

“I haven’t asked. I don’t wanna know.”

“Okay tomorrow night, you’re coming out with me after work,” Taylor said standing up.

“Fine,” Zac sighed.
