“Daddy?”

“Yes?” Zac answered placing the lid on his 4 year old son’s cup after refilling it with apple juice.

“Where’s Mommy?” Ryan asked pushing his toy car along the arm of the couch.

“I told you,” Zac said coming back into the living room and rejoining Ryan on the couch. “She went to the doctor.”

“Is she sick?” He asked looking up at Zac with his big brown eyes that matched his father’s perfectly.

“No, she’s not sick,” Zac told him handing Ryan his cup and turning down the volume on the television. “She’s just getting a check-up.”

“Why does she get a check up?”

“Well, you know when you go see the doctor, and you stand on the scale, and then he taps your knee with that hammer, and then you get a lollipop?”

“Yeah,” Ryan smiled.

“Well Mommy does that too,” Zac explained. “We all do.”

“Will Mommy get a lollipop?” He asked.

Zac laughed. “Maybe,” he said ruffling Ryan’s blonde hair while he turned the volume back up.

“Hello?” Ruby called out walking through the kitchen into the living room.

“Mommy,” Ryan greeted hopping off the couch and jogged towards her.

“Hey sweetie,” she said picking him up and giving him a kiss on the cheek.

“Hey Mom,” Zac said from the couch.

“Hi Dad,” she smiled and sat down next to Zac placing Ryan in her lap. “What are you guys doing?” She asked Ryan kissing his cheek again.

“Watching the baseball game,” Ryan answered.

Ruby nodded slowly. “Who’s winning?”

“St. Louis,” Ryan told her. “Because the Mets don’t know what they’re doing.”

Ruby raised one eyebrow at Zac. “You’ve taught him well.”

“Hey, I’m good for something,” Zac teased.

“You’re good for a lot of things,” Ruby mumbled to herself.

“What?” Zac turned his head to look at her.

“I need to talk to you,” Ruby whispered leaning to place her forehead on his.

“Okay then,” Zac agreed standing up. “Ryan, stay here and watch the game.” Ruby put him on the couch and went in the kitchen with Zac. “What is it? Is it bad?” Zac asked backing her up against the counter.

Ruby bit down on her bottom lip and shook her head. “No.”

“So what is it?” Zac raised his eyebrows. She slowly formed a smile and giggled, turning away to reach for a glass in the cabinet. “What?” Zac laughed wrapping his arms around her waist from behind.

She leaned her head back against his shoulder. “We’re gonna have another baby.”

Zac’s eyes widened. “Oh my God. You’re pregnant?” He asked.

She laughed again. “That’s what the doctor said.”

Zac let out a shocked laugh and turned her around to give her a hug. “Wow. That’s awesome, sweetheart.”

“I know,” she smiled hugging him back.

“So... I mean, oh my gosh. So is it a girl or a boy?” Zac asked.

“I don’t know yet,” she told him. “What if it’s a girl,” she said hopefully.

“What if it’s a boy?” Zac smiled.

“Don’t you want a girl?” Ruby asked draping her arms across Zac’s shoulders.

“It doesn’t matter to me,” Zac said wrapping his arms around her waist. He placed a kiss on her forehead.

Ruby looked down at her stomach. “Another one.”

“Yep,” Zac smiled poking her stomach with his index finger. “Ryan’s gonna have a brother.”

“Or sister,” she added.

Zac smiled and kissed her again. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

“Hey Ryan, guess what,” Zac called taking Ruby’s hand and leading her back into the living room.
