Michigan Championship Wrestling

August 2, 2002 (Flint, MI)

643 people turned out at the IMA Sports Arena in Flint, Michigan for this event.

I was pleasantly surprised by the event. I had heard that MCW is full of no-shows at every event and that it’s not worth going to. But the doubters were all wrong about this event as MCW put on a tremendous show. Sabu, The Sandman, New Jack, and Balls Mahoney, Kevin Sullivan, & Devon "Crowbar" Storm were all there. While Chris Candido and Big Vito did not show up, they ended up getting the Insane Clown Posse and Abdullah the Butcher.

Joe E. Legend (who wrestled for a bit in the WWF as Just Joe) beat Magnus (Magnus is known in both IWR and NWA-Great Lakes as Brimstone) with a Knee smash. Note that Brimstone/Magnus is nearly 7 feet tall. He is a bit slow, but shows a lot of potential.

Mad Dog Braxton ( Known as Yukon Braxton in IWF, XICW, GLW, and UWA-Universal) teamed with Disco Inferno to beat Bruce (Alan Funk) of the Rainbow Express (from NWA-TNA) and Anthony Rivera when Braxton pinned Rivera with his Choke-Power Bomb finisher (Similar to Albert’s "Baldo Bomb").

Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger (with Angel) beat "Alpha Male" Monty Brown and Chris Sabin when Simon & Swinger hit their double-team finisher on Chris Sabin after Monty Brown was chasing Angel around ringside.

After the match, Chris Sabin and Monty Brown challenge Simon and Swinger to a rematch. Simon asks the crowd, "Do you want to see a rematch?" "You want to see us fight one more time right now?" Big pop from the crowd and then Simon says, "Well you are not going to because we’re through for the night!"

Tracey Brooks beat Felina in a women’s match after Dropkicking a garbage can into her.

This was a really good match between the women except for the end, which they botched up.

Afer the match, Bruce of the Rainbow Express comes back out. He says that the women’s match was the worst match he has ever seen. He says that he’s not afraid to hit women and says that next show he will have his partner Lenny Lane with him and they challenge the two women.

Tracey Brooks then comes out and Bruce starts walking away. On behalf of the two women Tracy accepts the challenge.

Abdullah the Butcher beat New Jack and The Sandman in a 3-Way Hardcore Match. This match was quite extreme with a lot of brutality and big spots such as Sandman suplexing New Jack onto the ladder that Sandman had brought in the ring and Sandman repeatedly hitting New Jack and Abby with Singapore cane shots. But New Jack came back with a staple gun. After shooting staples into the crowd, New Jack stapled Sandman in the groin. Abby came back and started carving Sandman with his fork, then New Jack brought out a sickle and started carving Abby with it. The end came after New Jack had hit his "187" chair shot on Sandman. Abby broke up the count and then landed a big Elbowdrop on Sandman, squashing him with all his weight, and getting the 1-2-3.

Insane Clown Posse (with Rude Boy & Esham ) beat Cpl. Robinson & "Richie Boy" Breyer Wellington. Biggest pop of the night may have been for ICP as there were a lot of juggalos in the building. ICP actually showed some decent wrestling skills before pinning Breyer Wellington. Note that ICP had wrestling tights reminiscent of Sabu’s tights.

In the main event, the suicidal, homicidal, genocidal Sabu & Devon "Crowbar" Storm (with Shaffley) beat Balls Mahoney & Kevin Sullivan. This match went all over the place. Sabu hit a lot of big spots including "Air Sabu" in the corner and a huge dive outside the ring, past the guardrail onto Balls Mahoney. Balls had come back and hit his "Nutcracker Suite" onto a chair, but Sabu managed to kick out. The end came after Sabu and Devon "Crowbar" Storm placed Balls Mahoney on a table, Sabu hit a Legdrop off the top turnbuckle taking Balls through the table. Sabu went for the cover, but Kevin Sullivan made the save. Then Devon Storm went over to Kevin Sullivan and hit a Northern-Lights Suplex while using a chair (with Sullivan landing on the chair) to get the win.
