Gerroa Songs
Carrot Top 2000
rating 7.8
reviewer: kasey diaz

Recorded on an 8-track real-to-reel by the seaside cliffs of Gerroa, New South Wales, Australia, the appropriately titled Gerroa Songs is a documented peaceful moment in Archer Prewitt's (The Coctails, The Sea and Cake) life.

Invited by engineer Tony Dupé , Prewitt found comfort and relaxation recording in a supposedly haunted house once inhabited by nuns. Although Prewitt did not see the phantom lady sitting at the end of the hall, her ghostly spirits come out in the laid-back guitar lines, soothing vocals, and the weeping strings (although added later in Chicago).

The opening track "Gerroa" sets up the situation beautifully with a deep and inviting guitar line. "The Bay" is a two-minute instrumental that serves as a musical portrait of the Gerroa landscape. "Waves Waltz" is a two and a half minute soundtrack for a majestic dance on the beach where the waves are constantly bowing and retreating back into the Pacific night. Prewitt, a graphic designer and onetime Marvel comic artist, proves that he can paint successfully no matter what the media.

Gerroa Songs
may not be as stunning and melodic as the preceding White Sky, but is still impressive in its own right. The songs are deep, inspired, and written as if Prewitt will "never find another peace of mind."
