:::: [ i can climb mountains ] :::: http://www.iccm.2ya.com :::: Hell Is For Heroes - 'Sick/Happy' :::: [ i can climb mountains ] :::: http://www.iccm.2ya.com :::: This is my attempt at Sick/Happy. Most of you will be aware that there are a couple of versions of this song availiable, both demo's. One is on a Kerrang! cover CD from about November 2001, the other was released with 'Cut Down' as a two track promo in early 2001. I am basing this TAB on the 'original' version (from the promo). There are slight differences between the two, but nothing major. Right then... 'Sick/Happy' by Hell is for Heroes. (This is just how I play it, THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL TAB IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM!!!) The usual notes apply here- the tuning is 'drop-D' (DADGBE), the gain should be heavy but not too saturated (or the stops will sound sloppy), your head should be down, your feet should be about 5' apart... 1. Intro/Main riff. This is played by just one of the two guitars (Will plays it live) while the other keeps schtum. It's a lot cleaner than the chorus so either switch to your amps clean channel, or turn your guitars volume down to about 3 or 4. That should give you the right sort of tone. Slightly damp the strings with your picking hand. Use downstrokes. Chorus-type-bit - Rhythm guitar. (Well its not quite a chorus, but it's as close as we get to one in this song.) Make sure you mute the strings after each 'burst', if you let them ring it will sound rubbish. E-|----------------------------------------------------------------| B-|----------------------------------------------------------------| G-|9-9---9-9-9---9-9-9---9-9-9---9---------------------------------| D-|7-7---7-7-7---7-7-7---7-7-7---7-O-O---O-O-O---O-O-O---O-O-O---O-| A-|7-7---7-7-7---7-7-7---7-7-7---7-O-O---O-O-O---O-O-O---O-O-O---O-| D-|7-7---7-7-7---7-7-7---7-7-7---7-O-O---O-O-O---O-O-O---O-O-O---O-| X4 Play this four times. 2b. Chorus-type-bit - Lead guitar. This follows the same right hand technique as the rhythm part, if your hand isn't strumming it should be muting. Don't forget to slide up (marked '>>>>') to the 12th fret at the end of each bar. E-|-----------------------------------------------------------------------| B-|-----------------------------------------------------------------------| G-|6-6--6-6-6---6-6-6---6-6-6----11-11---11-11-11--11-11-11---11-11>>>>14-| D-|-----------------------------------------------------------------------| A-|4-4--4-4-4---4-4-4---4-4-4----9--9----9--9--9---9--9--9----9--9>>>>>12-| D-|-----------------------------------------------------------------------| (slide up) ^ Play this (above) four times. ^ 3a. Middle bit - Rhythm guitar. Right then, this part is quite loose so you are better off listening to the track to get an idea of how to play it. I use these chords: x|---|---|---|---| x|---|---|---|---| x|---|---|---|---| o|---|---|---|---| o|---|---|---|---| x|---|---|---|---| |---|---|---|-4-| |---|-4-|---|---| |---|---|---|-3-| |---|---|---|-3-| |---|-3-|---|---| |---|-1-|---|---| |---|-1-|---|---| o|---|---|---|---| |---|-1-|---|---| x|---|---|---|---| x|---|---|---|---| |---|-1-|---|---| N 1 2 3 4 N 1 2 3 4 N 1 2 3 4 Keep the open B-string droning. **A note about my chord-boxes**. I don't know if this is how they should be done, but it makes sense to me. Basically the numbers along the bottom reprisent the frets (with 'N' being the nut), and the numbers on the strings reprisent the fingers of your fretting hand (with '1' being your index finger and '4' being your little finger, etc.). An 'x' indicates a string should not be played, an 'o' means it should be played open. Written in TAB the above chords would look like this; E-|------------------------------------------------------------------| B-|O----------------------O------------------------------------------| G-|4----------------------2----------------------------4-------------| D-|4----------------------2----------------------------2-------------| A-|2----------------------O----------------------------2-------------| D-|----------------------------------------------------2-------------| 3a. Middle bit - Lead guitar. Again, listen to the track to get the right timing. These are the notes in a very rough timescale. E-|-------------------------------------------------------------| B-|-------------------------------------------------------------| G-|4-----------9---------14--13-------------11-9-----------6--4-| D-|-------------------------------------------------------------| A-|2-----------7---------12--11-------------9--7-----------4--2-| D-|-------------------------------------------------------------| E-|-------------------------------------------------------------| B-|-------------------------------------------------------------| G-|4--------6---7--6------------11-9-------------14--13---------| D-|-------------------------------------------------------------| A-|2--------4---5--4------------9--7-------------12--11---------| D-|-------------------------------------------------------------| 4a. End bit - Rhythm guitar. This starts with the big pogo bit. Keep the stops tight.... E-|----------------------------------------------------------------| B-|----------------------------------------------------------------| G-|99999---99999-------------------99999---99999-------------------| D-|77777---77777---OOOOO---OOOOO---77777---77777---OOOOO---OOOOO---| A-|77777---77777---OOOOO---OOOOO---77777---77777---OOOOO---OOOOO---| D-|77777---77777---OOOOO---OOOOO---77777---77777---OOOOO---OOOOO---| Then it mutates to include a pseudo-lead riff. Let the notes ring where you see 'R>>>' Keep the low-D ringing while you play the high bits.. E-|--------------------------------------------------------------------| B-|--------------------------------------------------------------------| G-|99999----99999----14--16--18--19---99999----99999----14--16--18--19-| D-|77777----77777---------------------77777----77777-------------------| A-|77777----77777----12--14--16--17---77777----77777----12--14--16--17-| D-|77777----77777----O----------------77777----77777----O--------------| R>>>> R>>>>R>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> R>>>> R>>>>R>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 4b. End bit - Lead guitar. This is split into 3 sections, the first is played twice. Keep the stops tight. E-|----------------------------------------------------------| B-|----------------------------------------------------------| G-|6-6-6-6-6----6-6-6-6-6----11-11-11-11-11---14-14-14-14-14-| D-|----------------------------------------------------------| A-|4-4-4-4-4----4-4-4-4-4----9--9--9--9--9----12-12-12-12-12-| D-|----------------------------------------------------------| X2 It changes when the vocals come back in, I've marked the notes as ringing, but just thrash away at them.. E-|----------------------------------------------------------| B-|----------------------------------------------------------| G-|6-------------------------11------------------------------| D-|----------------------------------------------------------| A-|4-------------------------9-------------------------------| D-|----------------------------------------------------------| X2 R>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>R>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> And then the third bit. I'm not 1OO% sure if this is how it is played, but it sounds OK to me. The little slide up at the end is indicated with the >>> marks. No timescale to this bit- listen to the song and it will be obvious. You should be shredding as if plectrums are free..... E-|8-----9-----1O----11----12----13----14--->>>-| B-|---------------------------------------------| G-|5-----6-----7-----8-----9-----1O----11--->>>-| D-|---------------------------------------------| A-|---------------------------------------------| D-|---------------------------------------------| (Slide up at finish) 5a. Outro -Rhythm guitar. This is just an adaptation of the intro, so all the notes in that section apply here too. Possibly my least favourite bit of any HIFH song, because hearing this part always means the gig's over, *sniff*...! Play this twice. E-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------| B-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------| G-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------| D-|11-11----11-11-----11-11-----11-11---------------------------------------| A-|O--O--O--O--O---O--O--O---O--O--O--O--9--9-----9--9-----9--9-----9--9----| D-|--------------------------------------O--O--O--O--O--O--O--O--O--O--O--O-| PLAYED TWICE ^ 5b. Outro - Lead guitar. Use the same tone as the rhythm guitar. This is played very softly. Listen to the song for the timing. E-|----------------------------------------------| B-|----------------------------------------------| G-|6--------7--------9--------11-------14--------| D-|----------------------------------------------| A-|4--------5--------7--------9--------12--------| D-|----------------------------------------------| R>>>>>>> R>>>>>>> R>>>>>>> R>>>>>>> R>>>>>>>> And that's about it.
