:::: [ i can climb mountains ] :::: http://www.iccm.2ya.com :::: 'Cut Down' by HELL IS FOR HEROES Tabbed by Stij ---------------------------- Right then, this is what I make of 'Cut Down'. This is still my favourite HIFH song, especially live, so if I have made any mistakes PLEASE let me know. It sounds OK but I'm not 100% sure this is how it should be played. As always, I'd advise you to use this TAB as a guide only. Try to learn the song by listening to it first. Use this if you get stuck. The tuning is DADGBE, your amp should be crunchy, your strap should be long.... 1. Main Riff. This is the big riff that opens the song and pops-up all the way through it. There are some stops and palm mutes to include, but a quick listen will tell you how to play it. I have stuck an 'D' above the notes that should be damped. D D D D D D D D E-|-----------------------------|-----------------------------| B-|-----------------------------|-----------------------------| G-|-----------------------------|-----------------------------| D-|-----------------------------|-----------------------------| A-|O---O-O-O--O---O-9--O-5--5-7-|O---O-O-O--O---O-9--O-5--5-7-| D-|O---O-O-O--O---O-9--O-5--5-7-|O---O-O-O--O---O-9--O-5--5-7-| 2a. Verse- rhythm guitar. Dead simple this, listen to the song to get the right feel though.. E-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| B-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| G-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| D-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| A-|7-7--7-7--7-7--7-7--5-5--5-5--5-5--5-5--7-7--7-7--7-7--7-7--5-5--5-5--5-5--5-5-| D-|7-7--7-7--7-7--7-7--5-5--5-5--5-5--5-5--7-7--7-7--7-7--7-7--5-5--5-5--5-5--5-5-| You can play it with a bigger chord if you like, like this- E-|---------------------------- B-|---------------------------- G-|9-9--9-9--9-9--9-9--7-7--7-7 D-|7-7--7-7--7-7--7-7--5-5--5-5 A-|7-7--7-7--7-7--7-7--5-5--5-5 D-|7-7--7-7--7-7--7-7--5-5--5-5 etc.. But there's not much point as the lead take's care of the higher notes. Speaking of which... 2b. Verse- lead guitar. This uses the same sort of strumming pattern as the rhythm guitar, so I won't bother to type all the notes out -just the points where they move up or down (it's the same chord shape moving up and down the neck, but I've no idea what it's called- it just plays the same note an octave apart). Remember to mute both D-strings. E-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| B-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| G-|6-------------------7-------------------9-------------------11---12---14---12--| D-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| A-|4-------------------5-------------------7-------------------9----1O---12---1O--| D-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| (Listen to the song to get the right balance of up/down strokes) 3a. Chorus- rhythm guitar. Same sort of feel as the verse, again you can use the 'bigger' chord shape here, but I don't think it needs it.. Play this twice. E-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| B-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| G-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| D-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| A-|4---------5---------O---------7---------4---------5---------O------------------| D-|4---------5---------O---------7---------4---------5---------O------------------| 3b. Chorus- lead guitar. Played in the same way as the verse. The repitition of the 5/7 chord at the end is to show the little fill that is played over the D-chord. It's also repated at the start to keep the timing right. (Is this making sense?) E-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| B-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| G-|13--------7---------7---------9---------13--------4---------7----7----9----7---| D-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| A-|11--------5---------5---------7---------11--------2---------5----5----7----5---| D-|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| (little fill) 4a. E-|----------------------------------------------------------------| B-|----------------------------------------------------------------| G-|----------------------------------------------------------------| D-|----------------------------------------------------------------| A-|99-999-999-999-977-777-777-777-799-999-999-999-955-555-555-555-5| D-|99-999-999-999-977-777-777-777-799-999-999-999-955-555-555-555-5| Then back to the main riff for the finish. 4b. Middle/end bit- lead guitar. Again, written with just the 1st note of each section for clarity. It follows the same picking pattern as the rhythm guitar part above. Same technique as before. First part... (This is one of the bits I'm not too sure about. It sounds OK and it fits, but it dosen't seem quite right somehow. Let me know if you come up with anything.) E-|----------------------------------------------------------------| B-|----------------------------------------------------------------| G-|7---------------6---------------7---------------4---------------| D-|----------------------------------------------------------------| A-|5---------------4---------------5---------------2---------------| D-|----------------------------------------------------------------| Then back to the main riff for the end. There is also a little part played 4 times over the last bit of the song, when the double vocal comes in...
