Sophomore Level Psychology is one of the very few all-lady rock bands in Ottawa. Their music is an experimental brand of punk/pop that encompasses challenging instrumental riffs and vocals ranging from whispers to shrieks. Formed in the fall of 2000, SLP has played all over the Ottawa area and has made the long trek to Toronto to play as well. The band consists of Misse Deline (drums), Nina Langfield (lead guitar), Natasha Beaudin (bass and vocals), and Jennifer Whiteford (guitar and vocals). Each member of the band has different musical obsessions, and so the influences heard in the music are creatively diverse. Audiences may hear echos of everything from The Slits, to Bikini Kill, to Sonic Youth. This summer, members of Sophomore Level Psychology will be involved in Ottawa's first Ladyfest, a three day festival celebrating women's do-it-yourself and punk adventures taking place from July 11-13th. The band members all have organizing duties and will also be playing at one of the evening shows. Future band goals include everything from recording a full length CD to inspiring the creation of other girl punk bands in the capital city. |
