Here are some traveling pictures. I've been meaning to post them for a while.
Me at the apprentice pillar in Rosslyn chapel, one of my "holy grail" destinations when I was traveling. I thought that it might be under here, and I still think that it's possible. Rosslyn was featured in "The DaVinci Code," which narratively was okay but had no clever ideas of its own, as all of them had been published many times before, often much better articulated. I'm not a fan of the whole Mervingian-bloodline version of the grail legend, I think it's a tangible artifact, although I don't discount that Jesus was married - I just don't think it affects anything about him/his message.
Me pointing to a gorilla.
This was the house I stayed at when I lived in York. #5 Minster Yard, right in back of the cathedral. If you're ever there, it's one of the stops on the ghost tour (the plague girl). It was built in like 1300, I think.
Big Ben.
"Here's me, overseas... 'cross the pond, by the dover peaks...
Notre Dame cathedral.
One of the things that I found most appealing about Europe, but France especially, was that cartoons and comics are considered an art form worthy of recognition, unlike in the states where they either are the fodder of kids or creepy adults with poor hygeine. Sadly, this is often true; a lot of the better graphic novels are short ordered here to make room for the superhero fare.
Breaking into song.
When I saw Amelie a couple of months later, I was really excited when I saw this carousel in the background of the scene where she leaves the clues for Nino to reach the payphone.
I love the architecture in Barcelona, it's so beautifully Moorish.
I met up with Liz (my then ex-grilfriend), her roommate Laura, and her friend Nawal in southern Spain for their spring break. This picture was taken by our snoring Canadian cabin-mate after 37 hours of nonstop travel.
Some of the ruins of the old city in Rome.
Liz and me in Vatican City.
Can anyone resist gag pictures with the leaning tower? We took about six.
"...On the water I'll offer my heart..." taking a Gondola ride in old Venicia.
Whenever my beard gets long enough, I always curl the moustache - this is called a "Verdi."
Here's a pic of me and Liz and my parent's house.
I get really into Halloween. Here are some of my costumes from the last few years:
This year I was Sir Harry Flashman, VC, from George Macdonald Fraser's fantastic novel series "The Flashman Papers." Whiskers: real.
Two or three years ago I was Edward Scissorhands. The scissors were a pain to make, but I finally did it, and they all moved independently, but peeing was out of the question. I gave one of the hands to Jessica Dockrey as a present, the other I left in my parents' garage and my dad threw it away..
Here I am as Bill "the Butcher" Cutting from "Gangs of New York." This is one of the few occasions when I did not grow my facial hair out for a costume - this moustache is fake. And the hair is a wig. And the wrinkles are makeup - I swear.
There was a costume contest at the Indiana Jones marathon in Murray, and rather than dress like Jones (as I figured everyone else would) I went as one of the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword. The beard THIS time is 100% Chris.
A picture of me swordfighting Woody, my little brother-in-law, at the aformentioned festival. I added the backgorund to give the pic a little more pizzazz.
