This CD is a recording of a live
performance at the Rhode Island School of Design
Auditorium in Providence, R.I. during the winter
of 1990. The recording engineer was Steve Copel
and he used a line level from the mixing console
direct to DAT. Newbird had the privilege of
rehearsing at the RISD auditorium thanks to the
fact that David Chandler
worked in the multimedia department. The
recording was intended to be a demo to get gigs.
Newbird was: David Chandler
on keyboards & vocals, Kenny Johnson on
drums, John Spreier
on bass & vocals, and Fred Wilkes on guitar
& vocals. Fred sang the lead vocals on all of
the songs except They Love
Each Other which was sung by David and Take Me to the River which
was sung by John.
Contrary to Ordinary was
written by Billy Jim Baker. I Hear You
Knocking was written by Smiley Lewis. I
Second That Emotion was written by Smokey
Robinson and Al Cleveland. It Takes a Lot to
Laugh - It Takes a Train to Cry was written
by Bob Dylan. Take Me to the River was
written by Al Green and Mabon Hodges. The
