~Pirates of the Caribbean~
This page
came about simply because I am in the process of updating my site, and I have
recently seen, and become enamoured with, Pirates of the Caribbean.
As this is a
fan page, I can’t really claim to be offering an unbiased review or such, but
what I will say is that I adored the film when I thought it was going to be a
cynical Disney marketing ploy—all right, it probably was, but it was worth the
admission fee—and I was pleasantly surprised.
For once in
a Hollywood movie, the Brits weren’t just the cold and unfeeling enemy—although
there were Brit baddies, the heroes were also composed of what was 99% a
British cast, among them favourites Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
Honorary
European Johnny Depp, though, stole the show. He credits his performance to the
inspiration provided by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones and Pepe le
Pew—although to me it seemed that his character, Jack Sparrow, would have been
right at home in British comedy The Fast Show.
The script,
by the same writers who gave us Shrek, was warm, funny,
self-referential; the cinematography was gorgeous; the performances spirited.
The cast were having fun, and it showed. It’s a great Summer movie, and, in
deference to one of my latest obsessions, here is this page… which is basically
an excuse for lavish praise and yummy pictures. Savvy?
