  6. Jason Knupfer (9/21/74) was the Phillies' 13th round pick in the 1996 amateur draft. He missed almost all of the 1999 season will a torn left ACL while turning a double play in April, which effectively put his development on hold for a year and squashed his major league chances. He returned to primarily serve in a back-up role. He hit .269 in Reading in 2000 and .239 in Scanton in 2001. His numbers may have allowed him to be an acceptable utility player in the majors, but he has now run out of chances for a major league call-up. He left as a free agent after the 2003 season. 7. Bobby Korecky (9/16/79) was the Phillies' 19th round pick in the 2002 amateur draft out of the University of Michigan. His promotion to Lakewood on July 26, 2002 was the first among the 2002 draftees to a full-season league. He performed well in Clearwater in 2003 as their closer, and ended up as the Player to be Named Later in the Eric Milton trade. (updated 3/10/04) (Back to the Phillies' Depth Chart)

  8. Greg Kubes (11/10/76), the Phillies 14th round pick in 1998, has shown constant success, regular improvement, and has been promoted regularly as he succeeds as each level. Although he racked up wins and kept his ERA down in the low minors, he does not have that elusive "stuff" that pitchers are supposed to have, and his fastball tops out at only 88. He will continue to have to prove himself at every level, but has a non-negligible chance of earning a major league call-up. Also, it's pronounced "KOO-bess". (updated 3/10/04).
