After a few days of behind the scenes strategizing and campaigning, Thomas Walker appeared at the National Press Club today to issue a statement concerning the upcoming OurCampaigns Presidential campaign.
As this campaign stated a few days ago, the voting for President at this site must be kept secret until all the votes are cast. This is vital to the preservation of decency and all that is right, fair and just.
As Dave Jones, the Vice Presidential nominee on my ticket said earlier today, "If the voting results are not kept secret, vote pandering once the election starts should be made illegal".
This further illustrates the need for a secret ballot. Candidates should try to be appealing to ALL voters here, not just use heavy handed bullying tactics on thoses they feel they can coercise into voting for them once they see how the results are going.
Thankfully, there are many good and honorable candidates running at OurCampaigns. I would like to personally thank Bob Heaney and Scott Mattson for joining with me in calling for secret elections.
Agreed, if the elections are secret, personal appeals to people once the voting starts is not unreasonable or a violation of ethical standards, which they could very well become were the vote totals to be open public knowledge.
I also agree with Bob Heaney in that Randy should be allowed to see and monitor the results, to ensure a fair and honest election. Usually around the world, Jimmy Carter seems to be one of the people who goes places to monitor elections. First off, Randy is more important, so he should have that position. Second, when I saw President Carter in October (he was signing books at the Plains Peanut Festival, so I'm not bragging that he is some sort of buddy of mine - I did get him to at least look up at me, but he didn't say a word) he didn't look like he was in the greatest of shape, as this exciting of an election might be too much pressure for him.
Remember, a vote for Walker-Jones is a win for us all.
