(Philadelphia) - Following yesterdays historic Presidential contest at OurCampaigns, where Thomas Walker and Dave Jones of the Abolition Party finished a strong second, the Abolition Party held a convention today in this the city of brotherly love.
The main order of business for the day was selecting a party chairman. As to this matter, there was certainly no brotherly love shown.
Members were inspired and fueled by Walker's strong showing, and were tired of the more than century and a half party rule of Francis J. Lemoyne.
Ten candidates received votes on the first ballot. Thomas Walker led with 365, followed by Francis J. Lemoyne with 327, Dave Jones (who was not even running) with 108, Sheep Farmer 95, Frank Lautenberg (who looked confused by the whole situation) 45, Bag of Dirt 17, J. E. Jumonville 15, Myrth York 15, Bill Buckel 7, and Sam Katz (who saw the opportunity to lose again) with 7.
All candidates with under 5% were dropped when the second ballot was held. Walker led with 475, followed by Lemoyne with 350, Jones with 108, and Sheep Farmer with 68.
Dave Jones, who was not even running, urged his delegates to support Walker before the third ballot commenced.
On the third ballot, Walker was elected Party Chairman with 584 votes. Lemoyne followed with 351, while Sheep Farmer trailed with 66.
