Noel Gallagher recruited by Inspiral Carpets as roadie.
August 18th,
1991
Oasis play their first gig, at Manchester's
Boardwalk. Noel, who has yet to join, is in the audience.
January 1992
Oasis play their first gig with Noel, again at the
Boardwalk. The first song they play is an instrumental version of
Columbia.
July 1992
Oasis play their first live radio session for Mark
Radcliffe, on his seminal Radio 5 show, Hit the North.
December 1992
Oasis record their first demo proper, Live
Demonstration, in Liverpool.
18th May 1993
The band play at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow
and Creation boss Alan McGee offers them a deal.
June 1993
Oasis' future manager, Marcus Russell, arrives at
the Manchester venue the Hop and Grape with Johnny Marr to see the band play.
October 22nd, 1993
Oasis sign to Creation for the UK and Sony for the
rest of the World.
December 1993
Recording sessions in Liverpool produce
'Supersonic'.
January 1994
Radio 1 take the unprecedented step of play-listing
'Columbia', a single sided promo not commercial available.
18th February 1994
The band, minus Noel, are incarcerated in Holland
for kicking off a ferry.
March 1994
Oasis make their debut TV appearance, playing the
cult channel 4 series, The Word.
April 11th 1994
'Supersonic' is released. It reaches No. 31
in the British singles chart.
June 20th 1994
'Shakermaker' takes Oasis just outside the top 10,
to No. 11.
June 26th 1994
The band play the Glastonbury festival's NME
stage. Here Liam asks the crowd, 'Are you gonna wake up, then, for some
real songs?'
August 8th 1994
Oasis release 'Live Forever' and go to No. 10. Their plan to
release one single every two months and achieve higher chart positioning each
time is working.
August 29th 1994
Definately Maybe, the debut album from Oasis
takes the No. 1 slot in the British album charts. It is the
fastest-selling debut album of all time.
September 23rd 1994
Oasis play the first date of their slightly shaky
first American tour.
October 10 1994
Cigarettes and Alcohol reaches No. 7 in the UK
charts.
December 19th 1994
Whatever gives Oasis their highest chart postioning
to date, it goes to number 3.
January 1995
On his acoustic guitar Noel writes the bulk of
Oasis's second album.
January 23rd 1995
Oasis win Best Band, Best New Band, and Best Single
for 'Live Forever' at NME Brat award to Oasis.
February 28th 1995
Oasis get Best Band at Brit awards. Blur win
four awards and dedicate their Best Band award to Oasis.
March 1995
'Live Forever' is at the top of the American
college charts, and Definately Maybe has sold over 220,000 copies.
April 24th 1995
Oasis have their first No. 1 hit with Some Might
Say.
April 27th 1995
Drummer Tony McCarroll makes his last appearance
with Oasis on Top Of The Pops. He is replaced that week by Alan White.
May 8th 1995
Oasis enter the Rockfield Studios to record their
second album.
June 23rd 1995
Robbie Williams from Take That joins Oasis onstage
at the Glastonbury festival.
August 14th 1995
Oasis release 'Roll With It' and Blur release
'Country House', sparking the big pop tiff of the nineties. Oasis have to
settle for No. 2 spot.
September 1995
Bass player Guigsy leaves the band citing nervous
exhaustion.
October 2nd
1995
(What's The Story) Morning Glory? is
released. It goes straight in at No. 1.
October 17th
1995
Temporary bassist Scott McLeod leaves the band in
the middle of an American tour.
October 30th
1995
'Wonderwall' is released, taking the No. 2 slot a
week later.
November 4th
and 5th 1995
Oasis play the biggest indoor European gig on
record at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre. Crowd capacity on each night
is 20,000.
December 1995
'Wonderwall' enters the Billboard charts in
America at No. 21, Definately Maybe has now sold in excess of 500,000
copies.
February 1996
Tickets for the Oasis gig at Manchester City ground
Maine Road are released. 80,000 are shifted in record time.
February 19th
1996
'Don't Look Back In Anger' is released, the first
single release with Noel not Liam on vocals. It goes to No. 1.
April 27th,
28th
Oasis play their two dates at Maine Road, and the
crowd are ' MAD FOR IT'.
