Prior to Oasis Gem played rhythm guitar for Heavy Stereo, he also produced,
wrote and sang songs for the band.
Gem joined Oasis in November 1999 as a rhythm guitarist to replace Paul
'Bonehead' Arthurs. His name comes from a nickname he's had since a child.
Archie Gemill was a famous Scotish soccer player in the 1970's and it was he
that Gem got the name from. (By the way, it is pronounced GEM, as in goat or
god, not as in jem stone)
He has various roles with Oasis. His main title is rhythm guitarist but when
Noel wants to focus on singing, Gem takes over the lead role. He's also written
the song 'Hung In a Bad Place' for the upcoming album. So far, it has rave
reviews by fans and critics.
