"Moss is a reflection of reality. It's my escape, it's my passion, it's my child." -Matt Schmidt
The concept of Moss was spawned in 1997 after drummer Matt Schmidt and guitarist Marcelo Zolessi moved to Central Florida to
attend audio engineering school at Full Sail. During this time the two
started recording song ideas and sending them to longtime friend and
band mate Bryan Cloud. Later that year, Cloud moved to Orlando to
join Moss. Over the course of the next year the three wrote, recorded,
and produced their ten-song album “Underworld”. This first release
displayed the band’s unique, diverse, hard-hitting style.
After searching high and low, Moss acquired a new bassist and began
performing around Central Florida. In doing so, they developed both a
unique sound and a loyal fan base. Around this time the group
recorded and produced a fully professional, five-song, self-titled EP.
Then due to personal and musical differences, their hard-sought-for
bassist left the band. A close friend of the band, McCoy, volunteered
as a replacement and remained with the band for the remainder of
2000. In early 2001, however, McCoy moved and Moss was once again
without a bassist.
Moss spent the summer in the studio writing and recording new ideas
while searching again for the perfect piece to complete the circle. In
October, friend Jason Zingrich came by the house to jam. He was
exactly what Moss was missing: a tight, well-versed, and creative bass
player. Moss hit the studio and starting the first real album as a band. It
was about this time the Moss was invited to be a part of “East Coast
Intensity”, a compilation CD of bands up and down the east coast.
With all obstacles out of the way, Moss has finished recording, mixing,
and mastering their album and is in the final stages of production. With
that done, Moss is moving on and seeking new venues to expose their
souls.
