The audience went mad when Melanie’s band started playing the opening bars of “Something’s Gonna Happen”, then Melanie leapt onto the stage singing “A shadow falls across the sky…” She was dressed in paint-splattered jeans and a black motorhead T-shirt, her hair was slicked back and she looked great. The atmosphere was amazing and I knew it would be an amazing gig!
Melanie sung “Independence Day” next, everyone was singing along and Melanie kept running up and down the stage. She followed this with a brilliant performance of “Northern Star” which had everyone in the audience swaying along. After that she sung “Be The One” the whole audience was singing along and copying Melanie’s hand actions. She kept smiling at everyone, she was looking totally cool and relaxed. To introduce her next song she said to us “D’ya wanna go crazy, d’ya wanna go… Ga Ga !?! Everyone screamed and screamed until Melanie started jumping about and singing like a nutter, we all jumped about too and it was brilliant! “Suddenly Monday” came next and as with the rest of the songs, she sung it perfectly. After that it was time to chill out with a brilliant performance of “I Turn To You”. Every time that she sung the line “I Turn To You” she pointed and the audience and we all pointed back at her. It was time to really slow things down after that, she sung “Feel The Sun”. She was loving it and kept showing off her ANGEL tattoo when she sung the word “angel”, she followed this with a moving performance of “If That Were Me”. Next it was time to liven things up again! Melanie’s band belted out the intro of “Goin Down” and we all went totally mental once more. After that Melanie decided to show her spicey side by doing a rocked up version of “Wannabe”. She sung “So tell me what you want what you really really want…”, then she pointed her mic at us and we screamed back “I’ll tell you what I want what I really really want!” The audience was loving it, Emma Bunton was sitting up in VIP and she looked like she was loving it too! “Wannabe” was followed by an excellent song – “I Wonder What It Would Be Like”. That had to be one of the highlights of the gig, Melanie was rocking! She kept up the rock flavour by singing “Go” before she leapt off stage again.
Her band made some adjustments, then Melanie came back on for the encore. She sung “Closer”, it was so brilliant and Melanie herself was simply amazing. The last song was an unplugged version of “Goin Down”, Melanie sung her heart out and the audience gave her a brilliant response. She took a bow with her band while the audience screamed and cheered, and that was the end of a fantastic gig!
