Perfume of choice and why: Alfred Sung "Forever" or Chanel "Mademoiselle".
Favorite '80s TV show:The SNORKS!!!
On WritingWhat was the first piece of fiction you wrote?
I didn't start "writing" until I was 19. I think it was a sappy piece about a girl riding on a bus who wants to help some poor people she sees, but then decides it's too hot out so she stays put. Awful stuff.
How did you know you wanted to be a writer and not, let's say, an opera singer?
It seems I have a penchant for useless degrees. Writing seemed the best way to justify them.
What books have inspired you?
Above all, I think Jane Austen novels.Talk about the pre-cursor to "Chick Lit." She is the "Chick Lit' matriarch. Also, I read Cathcer in the Rye over and over. Those two spring to mind.
Do you have any odd writing habits?
I think it has more to do with procrastination, but I can't start typing unless my entire desk is spotless. Sometimes the need for distraction is so great, I'll clean my entire room/house before sitting down at my desk.
On Dating...
Give us one pearl of wisdom when it comes to men and dating.
If he sends off warning lights early, trust yourself. You are usually right with your first gut reaction about a guy.
What's the worst dating moment you've ever experienced, or your most embarrassing dating story?
I went out on a date with a guy who started his car in 100 degree weather and got comfortable and settled before unlocking my side. It got progressively worse when he chose the movie and got fidgety and let ME PAY. My mom was working next door at the Sam's club, so I said I was going to the restroom and snuck out and hung out with my mom . I never saw him again.
Tell us your most unusual how-we-met story.
I met Matt at a pool. He was working and I was going to work out because I had just graduated from Texas A&M and had no job or any friends...(I'd just moved back to my hometown.) Anyway, the way he tells it, I looked like a Kindergarten teacher because I had on a sweater, khakis, and tennis shoes. I guess I was a cute enough Kindergarten teacher. ♥
Do you believe in love at first sight or lust at first sight?
I believe in both, without a doubt.
What quality or qualities do you look for in a man (besides basic hygiene)?
Sincerity. I hate "players" and bs-ers. Complete deal breakers for me. And back hair...you CAN'T have hair on your shoulders or back. Haha!
What's your drink of choice?
Capecod.
Name a favorite movie that you are most embarrassed about.
Great Muppet Caper.I'm a Muppets freak. I LOVE the Muppets.
What is your all-time favorite song or composition?
Hmmm...since I was about four, I've loved the Eagles' I can't tell you why .
Who is someone you admire and why?
I admire Katherine Hepburn. She had the guts to be opinionated when it was still looked down on for a woman. I like women with high standards and courage.
Share one of your favorite indulgences with us.
The $1 french bread from Wal-Mart. I could eat the entire thing on my way home from the store.
Is there something you've always wanted to do, but never had the courage to try? If so, what is it?
A nose ring. I love those tiny diamond studs.
What is the most daring or scary thing you've ever done?
Childbirth.
What quote or personal saying do you live by? Who said it?
"I have not yet begun to defile myself."--Doc Holiday in Tombstone
What's the worst job you've ever held?
A short order cook at The Dixie Chicken in College Station while I was an undergrad at Texas A&M. It was a bar..so there's nothing worse than flipping burgers while all of your friends are drinking.
What is your full-time job (if not writing)?
I write for a university newsline and alumni mag. I also do PR for their events.
What is your best career advice?
Never be intimidated by your goals. Don't ever think something you want to be is too hard to reach.
If you had to come up with a Dream Job, one that may not even exist, what would it be?
Some sort of private eye. I think they are fascinating. Or a bounty hunter. Wicked fun.
What can I say about myself that would interest you? Who knows. I love lists. Here are a few.
