Robin's Trip to Spain

Ok girls, here is a sampling of the first 40 pictures...I'm going to try to caption them all but there are way too many stories so we'll see how far I get. Enjoy! :-)

All of us in the Plaza Mayor (Jill I'm prob spelling that wrong, correct me if you wish) on our first night out in Madrid. I think this is the night I drank too much sangria and got a little tipsy. I think you guys know who everyone is, but in case you aren't sure I'll label this one and you can use it for reference:
l-r: Sam, Jonah, Ryan, Kristen, Me, Tedd.

This is this Egyptian tomb thing that Egypt donated to Spain thousands of years ago. Or maybe it was built thousands of years ago and donated to Spain more recently, I never really figured that out. Anyway it's pretty cool, it's juts situated in this park in the middle of Madrid, and entry is free and there's stuff carved into the stone walls on the inside and light pouring in through high windows. There are also some secret tunnel things into other rooms that the boys crawled through but then a security woman came over and told us in Spanish that that was not allowed. It was funny because even though we didn't necessaeily understand her words we knew by her tone what she meant. Sam is sitting on the wall outside the tomb if you look closely in the picture.

On our way from Madrid to Segovia we stopped at Sulli's Spanish family (the Montalvos') house. He lived with the elder Mr. & Mrs. Montalvo when he was a student in the 70's, and Javier, who is about his age, was his Spanish brother. Now Javier is grown up and married with 3 kids, and is apparently very wealthy judging by his house and stable. When we visited them their cat had juts had kittens (6) and we had soooo much fun playing with them. This is Javier's 15-yr old daughter Irena playing with one of the kittens. She was really sweet, I didn't talk to hre a whole lot but she was incredibly friendly. :-)

This is the Montalvo's stables, where they keep their 6(!) horses. Irena is saddling one up on the left and Kristen is posing with her's on the right. Honestly I wanted to ride one too, but I haven't ridden a horse since I was like 11, and I was never trained in how to use the reins or anything cause I always just used to ride bareback at Norm's. Kristen has a horse that she rides sometimes so she is pretty good and Irena is like trained in it, I think, so I didn't really feel comfortable riding with them. But it's cool, I had fun playing frisbee with the boys while they were out riding.

This is, l-r, Javier's 17 yr old son Javier Jr., who is now living with Mr.Sullivan for a month here in the U.S., Sam, Me & Kristen at the barbeque lunch the Montalvos prepared for us. It was sooooo good!

This is juts a cute shot of the Montalvo family with Sulli. Well, not the Mom or Irena but the guys. Sulli is seated between the parents, Javier and Javier Jr are standing up, and also behind them is little Alberto, their third child.

This is a palace in Segovia, my favorite city that we visited. I thought it was very pretty, but we didn't have time to visit it.

This is a picture I took on the roof of this giant monestary that we visited. You had to climb up 156 steps to get to the roof, and they were spiral steps that wound around a sort of ancient stone pole, so it REALLY killed your legs cause you were walking in these tight little circles up big steps. Mna oh man I thought I was gonna die. Anyway, then you get up to the top and there's this AMAZING view over the whole city. What's weird is that I remember talking to Sam and telling him I was going to take a picture of Kristen sitting between the columns on the edge of the roof, but apparently I took a picture of Sam and Kristen is just in the background. I think it's a really cool picture though, Sam looks really good and having Kristen the way she is makes it look artsy.

This is Jonah pouring sidre, or Asturian cider, while Mr.Rockmuller watches. The pouring and drinking of sidre requires a lengthly explanation, so let's wait until we're together in person and I'll explain it.

This is the group (minus me, cause I am taking the picture) playing cards and drinking, our favorite evening pastime while we were living in the house in Asturias. We had to be creative with out limited alcohol so if you look closely you will see that Kristen is holding up a container of Asturian milk, which we were mixing with Bailey's. It was muy yummy!

See those windows down by teh floor in the last photo? Well, if you get up in the morning and open them and sit in them and look out, this is the view you get! Awesome, no?

This is the day we went on a hike up into the mountains by our house. This is a cow we came across in the path. I like it.

This is the view from when we got to the top of the mountain. It was really very spectacular, this pocture doesn't do it justice at all. Ryan took a panoramic picture of the whole 360 degree view, so when I send you the link to his photos look for the one titled "spainpan".

This is Jonah and Sam in the phone booth in Tineo. The seņors dropped us off in Tineo one night for a few hours to entertain ourselves while they had dinner with a friend. There was nothing to do in Tineo except for a gay discoteca, an arcade full of 10-yr old soccer players, and a phone booth. We entertained ourselves for a good hour or two by trying to cram all six of us into the phone booth like people did in the 60's. We also called people. Jonah and Ryan called their girlfriends, and then when Tedd went to check out the arcade Ryan called Tedd's parents (his weren't home) and talked to them for a while, which was pretty funny. Then Tedd ca,e back and Ryan was like "Here Tedd, the phone is for you!" and Tedd thought it was going to be one of our friends and he was shocked when it was his Dad. Killah.

This is us in a little tiny village up in the mountains that we got lost in. We got lost every day, everywhere we tried to go, but this day was particularly bad because we were follwing someone's directions to a place wehere we could hike and we took literally about 5 wrong roads before we found the right one, and they were all stony and windy and one we had to back down to get out of it and it was on the edge of a cliff and Kristen and I thought we were going to die. Anyway, then we ended up in this nowhere town but it was pretty so we took pictures. BTW, Jonah is 6'4 (don't get too excited now, Ari!) so that is why everyone looks so short compared to him in the pictures.

While we were lost in this same town, Mr.Rock decided that he wanted a picture or him with the 3 recent graduates, so that is what this photo is. I wish I'd sucked in my stomach, it's bulging out a little and looks nasty. Oh well.

Kristen found this cow bone while we were rock-climbing. Elias collects odd bones, so she put it aside to find again on the way back down and take home for him. LAter she rinsed it off in the sink and all this blood came off, it was really nasty.
