Wizard Overview

The Hotkey List Wizard's job is to make creating hotkey lists easier, and very straightforward. The process is pretty simple: just read the instructions on screen, select the appropriate options, and click Next to continue.

After the initial welcome screen, you're going to be on a page that says Step 1 in the bottom left. On this page you choose your modifier key, whether its NONE (no modifier key), CTRL, ALT, or SHIFT. This is the key that gets held down before pressing the main key when you're trying to trigger your hotkey.

Step 2 is another simple step, you simply choose the main key for your hotkey from the list.

Step 3 is slightly more difficult. In this step you're going to choose the action of your hotkey. Currently there are 4 actions to choose from:

  • Run File. This is simple enough; after pressing your hotkey, the selected application/file will be run.
  • Open a website. This will run your default web browser and open a website.
  • Open command prompt. This will run the command prompt on your machine.
  • Browse to folder. This will open Windows Explorer to a folder of your choice.
After you've finished choosing your options for Step 3, click the "Set hotkey" button.

The next page you see lists all of the hotkeys you've added so far using the wizard. You can now choose to "Add More," which will go back to Step 1 and allow you to setup another hotkey. Or, you can choose "Finish" and the wizard will update KeyExpress with your new hotkeys. Clicking "Cancel" will close the wizard and return to the KeyExpress window.
