DVD's:

Will my DVD player play my DVD from iVIEW Media Services?

Most likely, yes. Recordable DVDs are never 100% compatible with all players, especially older models and "no-name" brands. We have a very high percentage ratio that is above average - 92% or higher. The average compatability is less than 82% (taken from a report in DV Magazine). We achieve a higher success rate through the usage of quality media, high-grade encoding, and name brand disc burners.

The only way to ensure 100% compatability is to produce a DVD glass master from a DLT data tape. This is an expensive process and is not done for a title (DVD) that will not be replicated in quanties of 1,000 or more. This quantiy requirement is not practical for private purposes, such as wedding and event videos, but may be a preferred course of action with instructional videos, short & feature films, or promotional & marketing videos.

How will my DVD or VHS tape be packaged?

Some production packages have detailed descriptions of how a DVD or VHS will be packaged, such as a Deluxe Case with artwork on front and back covers. With any production delivered on DVD or VHS, you can always upgrade the packaging to suit your needs. The base package includes a printed title on the disc along with a clear thin jewel case. The deluxe package includes images on the disc, an amory case, and front & back cover.

Can I play my DVD on a PAL DVD player?

Most likely, yes. Approximately 94% of PAL format DVD players can play an NTSC disc. In English, that means that a DVD made in the USA can be played in 96% of DVD players in England, France, Spain, Israel, Australia...

Can I order bulk copies of my DVD?

Yes. We are not a duplication house, so we're not equipped to give you 1,000 copies in 5 business days, but we can fill orders of 10, 25, 50, 100, and so on. If a larger number of copies are required, we can send them off to a duplication house, or refer you to them.

How can I get Free Services?

For certain productions, such as performance videos, graduations, and recitals, a larger quantity of DVDs & tapes may be in demand. If your event qualifies, you may be eligible for our "No Fee" program. The No Fee program works by making an advanced purchase of copies. We will match, dollar per dollar, the amount of the advanced purchase with the cost of our production and editing services. For example: If you wanted a video made of a high school band concert consisting of 50 players, getting all 50 participants to make an advanced purchase would cover the cost of a fully edited, audio sweetened, interactive DVD with enhanced menus. Call for more details and to see if your event qualifies.

What forms of payment can I pay with?

Check, cash, Visa, Master Card, or Discover Card.

When do I have to pay for services?

At least half of the total bill is due upon booking our services. The remaining balance is due upon completion of project. The entire balance may be paid upfront.

How far in advance should I book?

The earlier the better. Planning is far more important than most people realize. For example, if you need a commercial produced and you already have bought air time beginning next week, you've waited too long to get a commercial made. If you're getting married in two weeks, you will have a hard time finding a qualified videographer with a wide open schedule. It takes much longer to prepare any video production than it does to simply watch it.

How long until I can have my final video?

For most long-form video (longer than 2 minutes) we reserve up to 1 month to properly finish a project. Most video facilities take 2 months or longer. Whenever possible, we will turn around a project even quicker.

Why are the prices so low?

If you think our prices are a bit low, you're probable used to dealing with large production companies and post production houses. These business entities employ teams of people, own large facilities, and have buildings and trucks full of equipment. iVIEW Media Services centers around its owner and freelances out extra help when needed. We're not trying to be the biggest company in the city. We're more interested in making a well-planned surgical strike to produce the results you wanted in the first place.

Why are the prices so high?

If you're comparing the prices of our DVDs to the prices of the latest Hollywood release that went on sale at Best Buy for $15.99, you're leaving out the principle of supply and demand. Hundreds of thousands of copies are made for big titles, so it costs them very little to make each disc that so many people are expected to buy. If you're wanting a DVD made of our High School band's performance, chances are that it won't sell very many copies at Best Buy. An order 1,000 copies is considered a "short" order by replication centers, so making 50 isn't even offered and must be done through iVIEW Media Services.

Weddings:

Do you use a camera light?

We have an on-camera light that we can use, but we try to avoid it. In our experience, friends and family tend to show annoyance to the presence of a light shining in their faces. Mix in a little alcohol and you get some colorful yet unpleasant expressions from people.

Do you go around to tables to get interviews?

No. People absolutely hate when a camera is thrown in their face at the dinner table. Some people put on a happy face and do it for the bride & groom, but most wind up getting really annoyed. If you want people to say something to the camera, we strongly suggest having them step outside of the reception area where we can set up lights, audio, and a background for them to say something much more intimate and heartfelt that you can hear and understand instead of them saying something off the top of their heads in a noisy room like "...congratulations! And, uh, um, thanks! You guys are great! Uh... OK get that thing outta my face."

Why would I want more than one camera?

We have the means to edit multiple camera shoots. For many videos, finding the next shot can mean physically changing the setup and placement of the camera. Having more than one opens up the possibility of getting reverse angles and allows a mobile camera to roam freely as they search for that perfect shot. Editing between multiple cameras creates much more excitement when viewing the final piece.

Why do you offer several options that use a large screen?

Because it steals the show every time! We're happy to document your occasion, but presenting a pre-made project at an occasion brings together the participants in ways that magnify the very meaning of the event. Photo montages help to illustrate the lives that have just been joined and further endears the bride and groom to the guests. Video spoofs blow the roof off with laughter and lightens the mood for a night of celebration. Video messages from friends and family typically start a lot of tears. In every case, the whole room watches and shares in a given gesture, fostering a sense of fun, unity and fellowship.

Why should I get the highlights option?

The final DVD or VHS can be up to 2 hours in length. Throughout the course of your life, you probably won't want to watch all 2 hours of footage. In all likelihood, your kids will never want to watch all 2 hours. Our main goal is to create more than just a keepsake. We want to produce a family heirloom - something that you and your family will want to watch again and again as the years go by. Whittling down 2 - 4 hours of raw footage to a 10 - 30 minute sequence tastefully edited with slow motion, dissolves, and music, is the true pay-off for hiring a videographer in the first place.

Why should I get the DVD Authoring option?

The first reason is better playback compatibility in set top DVD players. The second is the option of creating custom menus with backgrounds, chapter menus, music, and extras. This kind of detail is the icing on the cake that gives a DVD its character.
