Here's
a little summary of how it all works:
The Venezuelan Winter Ball season starts on October 20th and finalizes on January 30th this year. There are 60 games in the regular season and the top five teams go on to play 16 more games in the semi-finals. The top two teams from the semi-finals play each other in a final best-of-seven series. The winner gets to advance to the Caribbean Series, in which the number one ranked teams from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Venezuela compete against each other. The Venezuelan League (or Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional) is made up of two divisions - Oriental (Eastern) and Occidente (Western). There are four teams in each division. Ramón's team, Pastora de los Llanos (Shepard of the Plains) is part of the Occidente division.
