So, I bet you're all wondering what's new in the world of Superficial Hero. Well, frankly, so am I. We have no shows lined up. We haven't practiced or written anything since our show at the Old Vic last month. We have no recording plans. In short, no direction and little apparent motivation. I think it's time to re-group and re-think some things. Soon, I guess.... On a side note, our guestbook has been signed for the first time in over a year. It's good to have fans. Tuesday, June 11
Hello? Anybody here? Well, if you are, come on out to the Old Vic on the 27th, and catch us in action again. We've really been laying low, but hopefully that will change soon. Working on a new demo, and getting some home recording equipment set up. Still trying to write these damn songs that've been kicking around for the last writer's-blocked year or so. Come rock with us. details to come.... Sunday, March 17
The much anticipated Translation Music 2 release party last night went off superbly. We opened the show with what i feel was one of our best sets in a long time, almost free of technical disruptions, and 5 other bands followed with superb sets. All in all, a great evening and a great show, thanks to Jon Fee/Don Lee and the Rum Diary, the Desert City Soundtrack, the Drop Science, Yello Dancer, Funnel Mouth, Michael and Section M, and Jessie Jean's Coffee Beans. Oh, and absolutely no thanks whatsoever to the City of Santa Rosa and her police department, for using a single discarded beer bottle as yet another excuse to kick it's own youth culture in the teeth. Look people, this isn't hard to understand. Hundreds of kids are showing up for shows like this because it's an exciting and positive environment. Even with only two all ages clubs in the county, there's a thriving culture of bands and musicians with such overwhelming enthuiasm for each other's music. Jessie Jean's is fulfilling a desperately needed niche in Santa Rosa's nightlife. If the kids aren't showing up there, or at the Phoenix Theatre, what are their options? A movie? Sure that's nice, but not every week. We have next to nothing and you're doing your damndest to take that away. Punish people who commit crimes, not the people who are trying to give a generation a of kids an environment where they can express themselves and support each other. Fuck you, Santa Rosa. Enough ranting. In other news, we shot some footage of last night's show, and some other footage from earlier in the evening, that may eventually turn into a lo-fi digital music video for Car Commercial. We'll let you know how that turns out. Cheers. Saturday, February 9
We have two, count 'em, TWO shows coming up kids! Both are at Jesse Jeans in Santa Rosa. The first one is on February 21st, with Substitute Hero and Urine Love. The show starts at 7:30, and we're going on second. We'll have copies of translation music two to sell also, and possibly re-packaged copies of Life Under Glass. The second show is the upcoming translation music 2 release party that we've benn talking about for a while now. Details are still being worked out for that one, but it's on March 16th at Jesse Jeans, and we're opening. For those of you interested in the compilation, i found out that the Last Record Store has a copy in it's listening station, so you can check out the goods before you buy. But you really should buy it; 15 songs by 15 bands for $5, plus you get really neat hand-crafted packaging and some neat surprises. Thursday, January 31
Me and Reed did a little snippet/loop type thing last night using Jeskola Buzz for Reed's brother to use on a portfolio/multimedia sort of project. It's called "I am Modest, Methodical" (click to download). We're thinking about fleshing it out as a full-length instrumental, but right now it's just a cool little fragment. Enjoy. There may or may not be old news stored at this location. |
