William and Mary Fletcher, parents of Francis, lived in the picturesque Yorkshire village of Allerston. In 1828 the Fletchers with their five sons joined the Great Migration from Yorkshire to Upper Canada. There they settled in the province of Ontario where they purchased land that had been granted to a British soldier for his service in the War of 1812. Four of the sons eventually moved to the United States, three of whom ended up in Oregon. The youngest son, Jeremiah remained on the family land and built Fletcher Haven, his home which remains in his family to this day.
