Toronto
and Niagara v1.1 Updates Available! Monday, April 23,
2001
Team
Fly!Ontario has just released the v1.1 updates for the Toronto and
Niagara Region Paks. These v1.1 updates are simple ones. They
fix the problem of a few missing textures when either of these Pak's
were installed stand alone (NOTE: The scenery worked fine if all
Paks were installed). All Fly!Ontario paks can now be used
individually with either of these updates applied. Of course,
we still recommend you use all of our scenery Paks, but we realize
for some this may not be possible. These updates also fix a
few minor model problems in the released versions:
Added
missing AC and RAW files
Moved
Burlington Globe to proper position
Straightened
SkyDome
Made
Lighthouse illuminate only at night
Fixed bad
hanger model at CYHM
You can obtain
the updates from the Download Paks
section. We hope you enjoy!
"Houston,
We have an Eggy WINNER!" Tuesday, April 17, 2001
With
MUCH foreboding on the part of the entire Fly!Ontario Team (who have
now become unwitting indentured servants), we announce the WINNER
of the Easter Egg Contest!
And who would this impeccably eyed pilot be? None other than:
Tommy
Magee
of AVSIM fame! (You can read
about Tommy's winning entry at the AVSIM
Fly! General Forum!) Tommy has the distinction of being
the first Human Bean to Fly! with the Pterodactyl's in over 10,000
years! What proof does Tommy present for his astounding feat?
Click for larger image!
WOW! In
Tommy's words, "MAYDAY, MAYDAY!!! Aggressive Canadian
Pilot!!!"
Tommy, we
couldn't have said it better! (And is that Herr Kanold flying on its
back?? Buck Naked!?? With a WHIP? <shiver>)
With their
tails between their legs in an extremely defeated pose, members of
Team Fly!Ontario have been dispatched to interview Tommy for his
tale of Close Encounters and unequaled bravery. Stay tooned to
find out what Airport Tommy will select to make the lives of Team
Fly!Ontario unbearable over the next few weeks!
Congratulations,
Tommy! Truly, a magnificent find - you Brave Warrior, you!
Second
Easter Egg Hint Posted Sunday, April 15, 2001
We have just
updated the Scenery Contest!
section with the Day 2 hint! As will be standard until someone
wins this Easter Egg Hunt, we have also expanded the previous days
hint to help you out.
Enjoy and Happy
Easter from your friends at Team Fly!Ontario!
First
Easter Egg Contest Entry! Sunday, April 15, 2001
We congratulate
Philip Olson (KCOS) for
having the very first entry in the "Take Off, eh!" Easter
Egg Contest! Although his entry was not the winning one,
we're sure this was a life changing experience for Philip. (his
entry can be found on the AVSIM
Fly! General Forum).
So, keep you're
eyes open and let the game continue... We'll post the second
hint for Day #2 later this afternoon in the Scenery
Contest! section.
Again,
congratulations Philip for having the first entry!
Fly!Ontario
IS RELEASED! Friday, April 13, 2001
Oh my
Lord! What's wrong with us?? Not only have we delayed
the release of Fly!Ontario TWICE beyond promises made in the past
(done for your better good as we always know what's best). Not
only did Team Fly!Ontario whip, beat and poke nasty sharp sticks at
Elrond (still recovering nicely in the hospital, thank you very
much) for publishing promises that couldn't be met. Not only
did Herr Kanold have an aneurysm due to the slow typing skills of
one Dan Martin... What have we gone and done now? Well,
much to our dismay:
Fly!Ontario
is released! On Friday the 13th!
Oh, the
irony! THE IRONY! Yes, you heard right. Phase one
of Fly!Ontario is now available in the downloads
section. We hope you enjoy!
So
you think you're good, eh? Well, lets put it to the
test! With the pending release of Fly!Ontario just moments
away, we're unleashing the biggest, baddest contest ever imagined in
the annals of Man. (heh heh... I said annals...).
How would you like to receive an airport of your choosing,
custom designed from scratch while you sit back and laugh at all the
hard work you make Team Ontario endure?
Sound too good to be
true? Guess again. Welcome to the "Take Off,
eh!" Easter Egg Contest! What can you win?
How can you enter? What are the rules? Are those
Fly!Ontario boys REALLY as crazy as they sound? All this and
more can be answered by visiting the Scenery
Contest! page. Watch out, however. The lunacy has
just begun...
Go

Great Lakes region of Fly!Ontario, you can now enjoy your first

kidding - we still have thousands of copies left - and one is
reserved just for you. And please, take a moment to visit the

ladies know, he's REAL cute!
Death
eludes but whips and sticks do not! April 07, 2001
"We're
BAAAACK!" was the startling announcement from the girlish and
squeaky voice of one Herr Kanold (barely heard over the snowy squeal
of Elrond's hospital television late, late last night). Why
you might ask is any Team Member still ALIVE following the
ill-fated release date "Death Pact" committed to
just a week previous?
"Because I'm larger
than Life and quicker than Death, Baby! - Muah Ha Ha!" was the
cackling response from Dan Martin, Team Technical Lead and Minority
Whip(er) for Fly!Ontario. Actually, once Dan had his
uncontrollable and manic sobbing under somewhat control, the real
reason for the delayed release was gleaned. "Because I
had to move and I lost my computer and my dog ate the scenery
and... Hey... Stop looking at me that way! I swear
its the truth! Wait a minute... Are you recording
this?? Why, you little..." (my lawyer and I are unhappy
to report that the tape recorder is mysteriously erased from this
point on).
The secondary reason for the
unfortunate delay? I'm recovering in the hospital following
Dan's little... uh... outburst. However, I'm very happy to
report a new and really, Really, REALLY Final release date for phase
one of Fly!Ontario:
Tuesday,
April 10th, 2001!
So there you
go. And is this another "Death Pact" date?
"Lordie, I hope not! I don't think I could take another
beating like that from Jim and Dan... Ouch! My
spleen! Stop - Poking - Me with those sticks, David and
Rob!" was the quote from this hospitalized reporter early this
afternoon.
But rest
assured, We Shall Not Slipith Again, Verily the Elf Sayith Unto
Thee!
Amen.

"Have you SEEN Jim's collection of whips??
<shiver>."
Fly!Ontario
to be released within the week! March 27, 2001
Jim Kanold of
Team Fly!Ontario publicly committed a release date for phase one of
our project in the AVSIM Fly!
General Forum! His quote in response to an (oft repeated)
question of when will it be released?
"A week
today, even if it kills us!"
Let it be know
that Jim is indeed, a man of many eloquent words! And, oh yes,
thanks for taking our lives in to your capable hands, our Herr
Kanold!
So there you
go, salivating masses. The one week countdown begins...
tick. tick. tick.

Fly!Ontario is
an immense project that has been in development for over eight
months. You can look forward to expansions and additions that
cover the entire province of Ontario within the coming year.
As well, we plan a full update of the existing scenery paks that
will take advantage of Fly! II's many improvements (not the least is
greatly enhanced ground resolution).
We would like
to take this moment to thank all of the wonderful people and their
expertise that made Fly!Ontario possible. In particular, we'd
like to thank Jak Fearon and Todd Klaus for their invaluable
contributions to the Fly! community at large. And, of course,
let us never forget the wonderful people who have given birth to our
passion - the amazing wizards at Terminal Reality. In
particular, we'd like to send a special thank you to Richard Harvey,
whom without, our entire community would grievously suffer.
If you consider
yourself a true Fly!er, please join the tight-knit community at the
venue par excellence: AVSIM.com.
