Just getting started...

At this point in the day, we were upbeat, taking our time and not realizing the daunting task ahead of us. We really hadn't prepared for the length of the hike. This picture was taken by a nice couple (we couldn't figure out how to use the auto-timer on my camera) less than a mile into the hike up. There was a nice view of the Gorge from here.
