Summer's End
Lyrics by Dan Jacobsen

It’s been too long of a time now
I can’t find a reason
The logic is missing
And I
Could back away if I wanted to
But I could never do it
At all

The summer’s end
is closing in
and the letters you’re writing
are slimming and growing small

And the ink on the page
Tells of places far away
In your dreams or in this world
And the etched out words
Speak of thoughtful blurbs
That didn’t quite make it out loud
That didn’t quite make it out loud

And someday soon
I’ll be writing you
With my pen guided
By the light of the moon
And the day is old
And the stars have come out to play
Have come out to play
and ends the day
With me sitting all alone
Sitting all alone

But this new idea of fun
Has turned its back on me
And this room is a jail right now
The doors are locked
There’s no way out
I can’t even tell if it’s day or night
I can’t tell if it’s light outside

And my computer sits in a corner unplugged
And darkness fills the emptiness
And crashes over me now
There is no way to escape
Not now, not ever more
All hope has been lost

I could have turned back to you
And I could have been with you
To comfort me in the quiet
When my ears hurt too much to hear
This silence is killing me
And it’s older by the hour

The summer’s end
is closing in
and the letters you’re writing
are slimming and growing small

And the ink on the page
Tells of places far away
In your dreams or in this world
And the etched out words
Speak of thoughtful blurbs
That didn’t quite make it out loud
That didn’t quite make it out loud

And someday soon
I’ll be writing you
With my pen guided
By the light of the moon
And the day is old
And the stars have come out to play
Have come out to play
and ends the day
With me sitting all alone
Sitting all alone
