Padre Island

Seashells glued together
To make tiny trinkets
Plastic seagull wind chime
Mexican beer cans
Unusual silver-red
Public showers
Sand draining
Water pushing
Blue green drains
Bucket shaped castles
Clinging to unnatural form
Beach towels showing off visitors
Umbrella like buoys
Temporary beacons
Frisbee dogs
Small puppies on leashes
Radios drift in out
Compete with atmosphere
Some sit vexed
By the sight of water
People
Like naked babies
Roamed with unsure footing
Lifeguard patrolled and daydreamed
Like the rest
Water incessantly reforming
All along the union
I watched the people waist high
Contemplating the distance
To the undertow.

A Walk

The sound of a beating bug
Bumping around in your heart
Enticing your ribs
That operation like an appendix
A requiem for disaster
Replacing it with dirt and sunlight
And transplanting flowers, tulips, pretty weeds
Dandelions and all that would fit
Accept a wasp’s nest and throne
And all the annoyances
Mend the soil like tending to stitches

Tend the garden
At least ones that look weedy
Pull them out but don’t be too picky
Don’t make things look sickly
Things should be a bit wild
But a problem occurs
Where is this
Why is the rain not pelting
Why is there no feeling of stinging
No hail pinging
These things ricochet off stones and rocks
Cut and polished abandoned in the open
Illegible text
Whether beaten
Or toppled
Mess sand blasted
Eroded consequence
Of the overthrow

A small building
With a little black paint
And carefully notched corners
Overlook the graveyard

Meeting 2

Itchy feet fiddle
The hands are voyeurs
Readjusting pants
Ears showoff eye candy
Smells waft unknown to nose
Brief glances
Long-term judge discriminating
Unfair
Excuses to walk by
Confidence wavers
No reason not to
Cigarettes accentuate mannerisms
You watch who they watch
Briefly
Stare with telepathy
Not always read
Corner of the eye
The only option
Taking your time
Patiently
To show you are infatuated
Leads to
Uncomfortable leaving
Memory hangs on
But turns ill
You leave also.

Disbelieve

Saturday morning kids watch
Cartoons
In walks glowing silver man
Sits on the rap-around couch
Flips through
Sandals
Turns over footstool
Pulls out saw
Cuts the room in two
Crudely dinks pink milk
Plants weeds crackle corn parade embedded
Packs it with lunch
Stuffs a house for a dog’s mouse and crew
Disappears under a van

Sees the train smoking
Chestnuts
Ducks
Showing the train nothing
Bison quake
Slow brakes
Derails
Delivers
Barely breathing wind
Pith
Sweet eyes
Pale dim
Sun finds drapes and blinds
Train faces all directions
Nothing to hide

Wild hills scruffy stone fields
Grey rain
Green man ran
A cold spell lifts up the wreckage
To boil
Re-amalgamate
Regretting
Beckoning
Beautiful red sky beaten brown
New place with yellow monkey
Skunks washing the ground
Lanky sounds in the distance

Glass thunderstorm balloons blooming
Nervous lightning fretting moaning
Grumpy blue moose mumped groaning
Gorillas build straw rooms
Out of marine colored
Gloomy glass cut wounds

Pandas laughed at children reading maps
Wanting to go home.
