The BookHead Project~LuLu

Hi! My name is LuLu. I am a painter.

Last October one of my collectors commissioned me to do a painting that would be a Christmas present for her sister who is a librarian at a school in Wisconsin. . This painting is titled “BookHead.” A version of it is featured above.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to meet the librarian. (We were both invited to the same wedding.) She told me that she loved the painting and had displayed it in the school library. The children took to it right away. In fact they started calling each other “BookHead”, in a good way. The librarian said the painting was encouraging the students to read.

What a pleasure it was for me to hear, to think that a painting I had done could provide encouragement. To that end, I would like to make a special offer to all librarians, students, Moms, Dads, Grandparents, and readers everywhere. I would like to offer copyright-free prints of the “BookHead” painting. That’s right…librarians can make prints to display or hand out, students can make prints, make T-shirt transfers, collages, labels, or book covers, and others can use them as presents (just put the print in a simple black frame and you have a nice gift.).

The only thing not allowed is commercial use. The “BookHead” image cannot be used on any item for resale. I am doing this project as a way to give back to my planet. I do not make any profit on it and neither should anyone else.

So have fun with “BookHead.” And check back here on occasion. I have a few awesome ideas, such as a “Show Off Your Library” link, and a “Cool Books & Why I Think So” link, so you can share the best books with other people. What about a REAL “BookHead” page? Put a book on your head and take a pic. This club is open to anyone who likes to read. Tell your friends, family and neighbors. No one is too young or too old to be a BookHead! Let’s get it going!

How to copy the BookHead painting:

Right click on the image. Select “Save image as.” Title it bookhead. Print it out to the size you desire. That’s it!

Most likely I will be splitting the following categories into two sections…one for children, another for adults…just like in public libraries.
