How long I been bitchin' there aren't any just plain R'N'R bands around anymore? Everybody's going friggin' emo or some shit, well this show restored my faith. I went to see the GoToHells because I've been a big fan of theirs for a few years now, and I had never even heard of the other 2 bands while I was standing in line for this show. Let's just say the whole night was worth my while, not just the headliner. Here's the breakdown:
The Digglers: These guys are from the central PA area, they opened the show. I picked up one of their CD's at the merch table, which you can check out my review in the reviews section. Opening up for the GoToHells ain't no small feat, especially for a lesser known band, but these guys showed no fear, and huge fuckin' balls. Their stuff is a little more poppy, like greaser R'N'R with some oldies and doo-wop influence(check out the record review), but they fit in perfectly. I'm pretty sure they were all drunk as hell. Singer was insane, he took his damn pants off halfway through the set and played the rest of the night half naked. The rest of the band was pretty insane too, thrashing like hell and rocking out, the guitarist drenched himself and the rest of the band in beer which the crowd fuckin' loved, and the bassist pulled a wicked dive off the PA stacks, blew my mind. I didn't know any of their songs but they played a few badass covers, like the Supersuckers "Rock and roll Records" and Cock Sparrer "Because You're Young", and Ramones "53rd and 3rd". I'm looking forward to checking these guys out again, and you should too.
The Skunx: These guys were friggin' sweet too. They had more of a rockabilly/psychobilly thing going on, something like Reverend horton heat crossed over with the Quakes or something, but also a real straight R'N'R edge. They were doing part of the tour with the GoToHells, which already gives 'em some credibility right there. Singer/bassist played a stand-up bass which was just awesome, how often do you see that anymore?!! They blazed right through their set, I think they stopped to make small-talk banter like once, and that was it, and it was just when they were tuning. They were a little less showman-like than the other 2 bands, but that's cool, 'cause their sound alone made up for it. Oh and did I mention they were all wearing suits, that was damn cool. Drummer played almost the whole set standing up
