The Digglers
C'mon, Rock and Roll with the Digglers
Magnum Pop/Red Star Distro

At first listen, you might wanna brand these guys as just another punk-influenced rock-and-roll group trying to mix up the Ramones and Buddy Holly - like those pussies The Vapids or complete ripoff artists The Huntingtons. There's a lot more to this EP though. It's rock-and-roll based music with the faster Ramones/Screeching Weasel pace, but what really makes these songs stand out from the rest out there are the vocals. The singer's voice is complimented throughout the verses and choruses by doowap style vocals from the other guys, and it sounds badass. Gives the record a real retro feel, and like I said, keeps it separated from all of the other punk 'n roll records out there thesedays.

The songs themselves are those of your typical rock band, all about girls, heartbreak and loss. I wouldn't say there's any new groudbreaking songwriting on this EP, but the songs are fun nonetheless. And there's just enough R'N'R snarl and attitude in here to make you believe these guys aren't just a bunch of broken-hearted pussies standing outside of their ex-girlfriend's bedroom windows with flowers and chocolates, shedding tears of sorrow. Especially after catching their live show and seeing the guitarist and bassist de-pants the singer and toss his jeans into the crowd as the singer cracked open a couple cans of beer and dumped them over everyone, I picture these guys as more of a "fuck you bitch" type of group, not unlike the Queers, who only sing about their ex's because you have to sing about more than beer and partying.

Overall an impressive first showing by these up-and-cummers. As you all know I hate EPs and CDs with only a few songs on 'em, so they lost a few points there. Put out a full-length record fellas, and I'll be in line to pick it up. And I'll sure as hell be in line to see these guys when they pass through Philly again.
