Guild Etiquette
by mevam
Let's face it...some of us have the worst guild manners!
I am the owner of a very successful guild called The Life, and over the time I made my
guild, I learned a lot from it. One thing that I sometime see is members being totally rude
and disrespectful. That's why I have made up these rules, which will come in handy to all
guild members, and especially guild owners, who probably experience the same problems,
but want a set of rules to show their members.
Number 1: Guild Advertising
It happens to every guild, I'll bet. Someone from another guild is sent to advertise that
guild, in another guild message board. This is very annoying, because not only does it clog
and clutter up message boards, but it is also disrespectful to the guild members and owner.
It's a pathetic way to try to gain new members, so I suggest you not to do it. Another form
of guild advertising is using the guild message board as a means to get extra visitors to your
shop, etc. It can get very annoying.
Number 2: Useless messages
There is no need to use the message board in the guild for useless short messages like "Hi"
or "I am very happy". These messages clog up the guild message board, and the important
messages will be missed as a result. Try to limit yourself to a few messages with all the
necessary information. Most guilds also feature live chats so that there is no need to post
dozens of messages to try to carry on a conversation.
Number 3: Spamming the guild leader/council members/ or members.
Because I am the owner of a large guild, this happens to me a lot. I keep my Neomail
available for everyone to send messages to me, because a lot of them are very useful to
me. Some of them are just messages that I don't have time to reply like "How did you get
so much NP?" or "How do you put music in your guild?" I wish I had the time to answer all
my Neomails, but the important ones deserve priority. If you are Neomailing to ask about
HTML help, see Neopets' great HTML help section. If you need help making NP, look at Neopian Times articles. A lot of them give tips on making NP
Number 4: Insulting guild members
It is important that all steps are taken to make sure not to get into confrontations with other
guild members. And if you do, do not insult one another. Not only does it make it dismal
for guild members not involved, but it ruins the fun for everyone. Have the common
courtesy to respect everyone, no matter what they say.
Number 5: Whining
If you don't win a guild contest, or you aren't chosen to be on the guild council, don't whine
and complain, saying that everyone is unfair, and that the guild stinks. This isn't an effective
way of trying to solve the problem. If you didn't win a guild contest, don't complain.
Accept the fact that you just weren't lucky then. If you don't make it on the guild council,
don't whine either. Maybe you didn't fit the qualifications, and reason the whoever was
chosen must have been a better choice.
This was 'borrowed' from a Neopian Times article by mevam. Thanks for this great article!
