The Black Cloud Diesel Infantry of the Civil War

Many people have never heard of this all African-American Branch of Infantry in the Civil War. They fought out of New Jersey. In all there was 2,387 men who fought in the division. Only males were allowed in it and it was volunteer. Throughout the time they battled there was over 600 casualties and in all there was only 412 deaths. This was a very secretive division because when the south knew where the other divisions were coming from, they would send them in the opposite way. The Black Cloud Diesel Infantry never got to see much action because after one and a half years of battle they were divided up into other African-American divisions. Few people know this division because it was not very often that they fought in the major battles, and when they did they made just a minor impact on the outcome.
