Eddies
of the
Wind-Audio Quill
This is the debut album from
veteran writer/recording artist
Jack Gray and his Eddies of the Wind. Working from a palette of
psychedelic, folk, rock and techno, Gray and the Eddies have produced a
stellar recording, one which promises to be among the year's most
innovative and ambitious releases. A must for any record collection,
Eddies of the Wind is truly a great accomplishment for a new artist.
Gray and his band recrecorded the EOW project in Nashville/Chattanooga
showcasing musical talent to render this project of multi dimensions
into a superior
sonic delivery. Gray is currently working out of Audio Quill's project
studio in his hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he is now
recording his followup to Eddies of the Wind.
Eddies of the Wind relies on a variety of influences on this record
which stalks the 60's psychedelic movement, led by such greats as the
Beatles, Crowded House and Pink Floyd to his hauntingly similar
stylings to Bobby Dylan. Lyrically this is a poignant approach to the
winds of change which are destined to shape the world in which we live
in.
"Union Sign" is a folk/rock anthem sung through the eyes of an
1800's corporate tyrant who laughs at his subject's inability to
reconcile their need for survival with a life of indentured
servitude during the Industrial Revolution. "Bubblegum Trinkets" also
pens a plea to our leadership to stop putting a dollar value on our
human existence. This album is packed with eleven quality cuts that not
only sound great but also listens to heart of free expression. Another
highlight is the psychedelic dream states that "Love Battles L Dopa"
and "Eddies of the Wind" aspire to. These cut use 70 plus tracks to
bring its melancholy science-fiction storyline to a boil.
Audio Quill is proud to have "Eddies of the Wind" as
its first release, and Gray along with his Eddies are eager to unveil
this imaginative recording and whisk you away and off to a place of
swirling soundscapes, transporting the listener onward to a journey and
finally touching down in a strange place that is clearly not Kansas.
Psycho Bible
-Audio Quill & Psycho Bible
Psycho Bible is another debut album on the AQ site. A Band
that helped spawn the original music scene in the
late 80's in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Psycho Bible project was
shelved. Recorded on an archaic 1/4"track analog Teac
deck
this psychedelic gothic band weaves its way through a mini-opera
segueyed by homemade noise candy.
The writing is strong along with some steller
perfomances by Terry Clouds on bass and Bob Courter on drums. Brian
King and Mud John Finn share guitar and vocal duty. Some
of the vocal arrangements are reminiscent of Beatlesque style
production. There are many highlights and as I
said there are plenty of sound effects, loops and general noise.
A thematic anthem kicks the record off with a ever so slow fade in to a
dark waterfall of sound. The
piece quickly evolves into "Godhead" an ominus ode written by King.
Another highlight is "The Mood Exploded" another gem penned by King,
this
hook friendly tune is a nice lift from the darker previous overtures.
"E.R." is another adventurous number that evokes a
great deal of dynamics from its heavy power guitar lines to the wooden
transitions that venture off and back to its swirling climactic
adventure.
The "B-side" is a musique concrete piece with another barage of sound
effects including a surprise appearance by Finn's Grandmother as she
speaks from the grave. This
is a great little record and I know you will enjoy having it in your
collection.
