Go to TOP The following information is about CET 2000. However most of the information will still be relevant, so read on..... In all your future correspondences with the CET Cell, do not forget to mention either your CET number or the application serial number. The price of the Brochure is same for all the candidates including SC, ST and Category I. But in case of candidates belonging to SC, ST and Category I, and seeking admission to Karnataka quota, an amount of Rs.200/- will be adjusted towards fees only when the candidate produces a validity certificate and opts for a free seat. Exam Centres And Admission Tickets Candidates who have written the Q.E.(qualifying exam) within Karnataka should write CET in a test centre within the district in which the candidate studied PUC or XII std. So, if CET test centres are located in more than one place in a district, the candidate can choose one of the places. If there is more than one test centre in a place, then the decision to assign the test centre will rest with the CET Cell. The CET Cell will decide on random basis the test centre of a candidate. Candidates who have studied the Q.E. outside Karnataka can write CET only in Bangalore, Belgaum, Bellary, Bidar, Mangalore, Gulbarga, Mysore, Raichur, Tumkur test centres. So, such candidates can choose any of the above said places for the test. They have to mention one of the above said places in item - 19 in the application form. If a candidate writes a place name other than the above said nine places, then the candidate will be assigned a test centre in Bangalore. The candidates who submit applications through their respective colleges of study will have to collect the admission tickets from the schools or colleges about a week earlier to the date of the test. Candidates who would have submitted their applications directly to the CET Cell by post will get the admission tickets by post to their addresses given in their applications. Why Ball Point Pens ? This time the candidates are allowed to carry home a replica or facsimile of the answer sheets and the answer paper comes in a set of two sheets. When you shade the top sheet, the pressure will create a dark mark on the bottom sheet on the corresponding circle. If a pen with a nib is used, the pressure on the top sheet will not be sufficient to activate the chemical on the bottom sheet. On the other hand, a ball point pen exerts sufficient pressure to convert the bottom sheet chemical into a dark spot. That is why we want you to use a ball point pen. Once you darken a circle with ball point pen, there is no way to erase or to remove it. That way your decision about a correct answer will be final. You will not be supplied with one more set of OMR sheet. So, if you spoil a sheet in your attempt to rub off the shading done on a circle, you may ruin your opportunities. If two circles are shaded in a row, and even if one of the circles is partially rubbed off, the scanner machine will take it as a multiple attempt and later the computer will deduct one mark. So, think twice before you shade a circle with ink. Switch Over From Pencil to Pen ! OMR answer sheets are used on which the candidate is required to shade one out of the four circles to mark the correct answer. In a hurry or in a state of confusion or dilemma, a candidate may mark one of the circles but soon he may decide to shade another. To facilitate this the candidates were asked to use only a pencil and our scanner was designed only to read pencil shades. Though this was thought of as a very practical measure, many candidates and parents saw motive in this. Many of them did not hesitate to openly air their doubts about the possibility of someone tampering with the answer scripts either to harm or to help a candidate. All the officials of the CET Cell have maintained the highest ethics, integrity and honesty in their conduct and dealings. More over the system is such that there is absolutely no scope for any kind of manipulations. The marked answer sheets reach the CET Cell from the exam centres in sealed cloth bags escorted by the police personnel. It is directly taken into the strong room of the CET Cell, wherein the cloth bags are kept in steal vaults and the strong room is guarded by the police all the 24 hours. As a principle, a single officer or person is not allowed to enter the strong room. Whenever the strong room is opened, the Special Officer, Administrative Officer, Computer Engineers and a record keeper etc. will be present. The answer scripts are scanned over a period of 7 to 8 days and the exercise is continuous without a break. The cloth bags containing the answer scripts are carried from the strong room to the computer room accompanied by the Special Officer and other officers, escorted by the police and while scanning, in addition to the above said officials senior computer engineers and a maintenance engineer on behalf of the firm which had supplied the scanner will also be present. Immediately after the scanning is over, the OMR sheet containing the correct versions will be scanned and then the scoring is done. This step is followed by feeding of Q.E. marks in case of Karnataka quota candidates. There afterwards, the computer generates the merit list based on the scoring. All these steps are carried out as a continuous process and as it is a team work. So, the scope for touching or tampering with the answer scripts does not exist. After the scanning, the answer scripts are kept under tight security in the strong room. Whenever candidates challenged the correctness of the scoring either before the High Court or before the Special Officer, the CET Cell has produced the answer scripts for verification of the accuracy. In spite of all this, as already said doubts have lingered in the minds of many about the possibility of foul play. So, the CET cell to allay even such doubts and misconceptions switched over from pencil to pen. Go to TOP
