UK conference is slap
in Govt.’s face
THE JULY Conference organized by the UK Government to discuss Guyana’s
future is - deservedly - a slap in the face of a Government that has presided
over the slaughter of its ethnic constituents for more than 15 months. What
is, however, insulting to these constituents and the majority of decent
Guyanese, is the selection of a clique of goodly men, by the powers that be,
who supposedly can dictate the way forward for everyone in this multiethnic
nation. What arrogance!
Who do these goodly gentlemen speak for? What qualifies such a man as Hugh
Cholomondely? Is it because as a specialist in conflict resolution, he sat by
passively and watched the atrocities committed by his kith and kin without
uttering a word of condemnation?
What qualifies the architect of the Burnham constitution - Sir
Shridat Ramphal? Is it because he has the capacity to
sit from afar and passively watch the slaughter of his kith and kin?
What qualifies the learned Dr.
Clive Thomas? Is it because he has the capacity to theorize and
explain away the atrocities committed by his kith and kin?
Perhaps His Excellency Hiscock
can tell us the criteria used for selecting these gentlemen.
