The crime situation is deterring people from visiting

Dear Editor,

I've been reading your newspaper online. I am a proud Guyanese who left in 1992 in search of an opportunity to improve my lifestyle. I am a police officer in a large police department in the state of New Jersey. I often share stories of my childhood to my fellow police officers.

The current crime situation is of much concern to me since I would like to bring my wife and children to visit. My wife is American who would love to see the land I talk so much of. Many Guyanese who've returned to the USA recently, discourage any visit because of the crime.

Mr. Editor, you have a medium that could inform the people that their conduct against their own people discourages many people both Guyanese and Americans from visiting. That means the economy suffers due to the loss of the American dollars we would spend.

If the police and army cannot combat the crime situation, the Government should seek outside help. Seeking outside help should never be viewed as negative, but a means of improving the quality of life for every citizen.

Yours faithfully,

O. Taylor
