PHOTOS 1 - 12: Earth Day, April 19th, 2006 the Wea Indian Tribe was invited to participate and celebrate Earth Day. The celebration was held in downtown Lafayette at the Depot Station & the John Myers Bridge, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Eighty (80) School children grades K – 4th attended as part of their schools field trip. They were from the “Paddle for Life Kids.”

Representatives from the Wea Indian Tribe was there in full regalia and gave a speech to the children about why keeping trash off our Earth Mother and protecting our environment is so important. The Wea Tribe also had on display for the children information about the Wea and Woodland Indian history and culture.

Other local groups and individuals who participated were: DeTrash The Wabash; Mrs. Cecily Schneider; Indiana State Representative Mrs. Shelia Klinker; Wabash River Heritage Corridor Commission; Niches; Lafayette Recycle Groups; Hoosier Environmental Council; Water Watchers; Banks of the Wabash, Inc.; and others along with local Lafayette T.V. new channels and newspapers.

The Wea Indian Tribe would like to extend our gratitude for being invited to attend Earth Day. We consider this an honor to have been among you all !

PHOTOS 13 - 22: Tippecanoe County Historical Association (TCHA) Program Manager Alice Carver-Kubik at their Battleground Museum, Battleground, Tippecanoe County Indiana on April 28, 2006 hosted a Kids Day Field Trip for 7th graders from the Mishawaka, Indiana area who learned about the Wea and Woodland Indians history and culture.

Representatives of the Wea Indian Tribe were present and gave a forty minute lecture to each group of the 150 children present from 10:30am to 3:00pm. After the lecture, the children were allowed to come up and get a “birds-eye view” of and touch the many real Ouiatenon Village artifacts, replicas, miniature village display, posters and woodland information on history and culture, beadwork, bags, woodland jewelry, rattles, walking sticks, dance sticks, power horns, furs, and skins, and much, much more.

The event was a huge success and the Wea Tribe would like to extend our gratitude for being invited by TCHA to attend and teach the children during this school field trip. We consider this an honor to have been among you all !
