From November 1st thru the 30th, was Native American Indian Month in Indiana. We celebrated with our Tribe and others all month long!
Photos 1 thru 8: November 2, 2005 - We celebrated Native American Indian Month at the Indiana State House Rotunda Room in Indianapolis, Indiana from 9am - 1pm. The event was hosted by the Pokagon Band of Potowatomi & Native American Indian Voices of Indiana. Speeches were given by several different Tribal members. Wea Acting Principal Chief Ray Haffner & Civil Chief Ron Melton spoke on the locations of the Wea, Piankeshaw and Miami in Indiana in the 1700 & 1800's.
Photos 9 thru 14: November 6, 2005 - Celebrating the Commemoration of the 194th anniversary of the Battle of Tippecanoe. It was on Sunday from 1pm - 4pm at the Battleground Museum in Battleground, Indiana. It was hosted by the Tippecanoe County Historical Society. Max Haffner & Brenda Lindley gave a short speech on the Battle from the Wea prospective to honor the Wea warriors and Wea War Chief Stone Eater, who fought & died in this battle. They had a table set up too, and handed out free literature on the Wea, and spoke to visitors about the history. It was a great celebration!
Photos 15 thru 24: November 18, 2005 - Demonstration & Craft Day was at the Indiana State Museum on Sunday from 9:30am - 1pm. Hosted by the Pokagon Band of Potowatomi & Native American Indian Voices of Indiana. There were 1,500 school children, who attended the event through field trips. Brenda demonstrated beadwork, and Max his leather bags.
