The purpose of this website is to unravel the mystery of esoteric aspect of holy cow with the help of vedic and puraanic texts. The initial input for understanding cow is available from 6th chapter of Shatapatha Brahmana where ab initio preparation of an earthen pot called Ukhaa/Ushaa is given. It has been said that these lokaas/heavens are ukhaa and these lokaas are cows. This indicates that either ukhaa and cow are identical or there is a vast similarity between the two. Ukhaa/ushaa has to become a womb to support the development of divine fire, which will later take birth from it. In common parlence, ushaa is name of dawn which appears everyday and it has been said that sun establishes it's semen in it. The apparent difficulty is that if ukhaa is a cow, then the sun, which establishes it's semen in it, has been called a horse, ashva. The esoteric aspect of horse in vedic literature seems to be that it makes an even distribution of energy wherever it is clogged, it spreads the energy. For example, development of sexual feeling is because of the fact that some part of energy has been clogged in different parts of the body which needs to be freed from this bondage. In Ashvamedha sacrifice, a horse is supposed to be worthy of sacrifice when nobody on the earth hinders it's motion. In a similar way, it is to be investigated what it may mean when sacred texts say that cows were stolen by demons, panis etc. The fire which takes birth from ukhaa has been given the form of a hawk. The ultimate aim is that this hawk be able to fly to the heaven and bring divine drink Soma from there. There is a sacrifice called Gavaamayana which lasts for one year. For the first six months, one feather of this hawk is prepared and in the other six months, the other side or feather of this hawk is prepared.

There is general understanding in vedic texts that gau/cow is related with sun rays. This earth is also called cow. Some try to interpret it in a way that as this earth may reflect sunrays, that is why it can be called cow. But this argument does not seem to be tenable. The other possibility is that when Shatapatha Brahmana says that these lokaas are cow, then the concept of rays is hidden in lokaa/rokaa or luminescence. When this inner state is achieved, that material is worthy of being brought under the category of cow. The earlier state than cow may be Aja, the goat. In Sanskrit, Aja means from which nothing is generated.

In scientific language, ushaa is the state of lowest entropy in waking state in the realm of consciousness. The state earlier than ushaa is night.
