Understanding The New CovenantBy The Example of the Knights of BereaBy J. DeanThe New Day Dawns Now comes the day and the hour of Truth, it comes rushing upon the dwellers of the Earth in two forms:
A GLIMMER OF HOPE We do not, as yet, see this day, but we see the glimmers of it, like those who stand at the end of a weary battle waged in the darkness of night, all the while looking to the east, for the hope, that glimmering that announces the coming of sunrise. It is a thin line that begins as a tiny speck, a spark in one point of the horizon, then slowly, as unstoppable as time itself, begins to spread, wider and clearer, and hope leaps into the hearts of those who have eagerly awaited the dawn! Let me make it perfectly clear, I do not speak poetically here, and I do NOT speak metaphorically! This NEW STAR that is arising is as real as faithful Sol that has fed and fortified all life on this planet since the very beginnings. This Day Star is even now beginning to glimmer in the hearts of men. 2 Peter 1: 17-21 "17 For he (Messiah) received from God the Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the exellent glory, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we HEARD, when we were with him in the holy mount. 19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy;to which you do well that you take heed, as a light that shines into a dark place, until the day dawn and the day star arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture can be privately interpreted. 21 For the prophecy came not, of old, by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit." So you see, my dear seekers of Truth, those of a kindred spirit, namely the Holy Spirit, this day star is REAL, and is even now beginning to dawn! LOOK TO THE As all who await a sunrise do, there is but ONE direction we must look FIRST to see this NEW DAY dawning. In 2 Peter, the Apostle turns us to that direction, and then unfolds the DEEPEST TRUTH, giving us our first glimpse of that tiny stretch of light on the horizon that will become the NEW DAY! The Epistle, in verse 20 points us to "the Scriptures of OLD." The only "scriptures" in possession of the writer of this Epistle, and in the possession of those to whom he was writing at the time were the scriptures of the Tanakh! Yet, the message here is not that the Scriptures, (to which we MUST FIRST TURN) are that light! NO! For you see the scriptures are the REFLECTION of the LIGHT given off by the DAY STAR of the HOLY SPIRIT! The scriptures are the "lesser light to rule the NIGHT!" For you see, just as the MOON possesses NO REAL LIGHT OF ITS OWN, but takes the LIGHT OF THE SUN and reflects it into the NIGHT, SO LIKEWISE the scriptures are PAGES OF PARCHMENT ONLY, and those pages are NOT THE SOURCE OF THE LIGHT, but CAPTURE THE LIGHT GIVEN OFF BY THE HOLY SPIRIT and REFLECT IT TO US! Once the DAY STAR ARISES in ALL IT'S GLORY, the MOON will be DIMINISHED (though it will still exist)!The scriptures (like the moon) reflect a PORTION of that LIGHT, and like the moon, only show a FRACTION of the LIGHT, the scriptures are not the source of the light! This is why the writer of the Epistle of 2 Peter points out in verse 21 that the SOURCE of these scriptures is "the Holy Spirit." It stands to reason, therefore, that if the SOURCE of the scriptures is the Holy Spirit, and the scripture "cannot be broken" according to Yahshua Messiah, consider this WONDERFUL TRUTH with me for just a moment! That same spirit which inspired Holy men of God in days of old to write the words of the scriptures NOW is placed IN THE HEART of every true believer! Thus, the source of SCRIPTURE itself is IN OUR HEARTS, so that, should ANYONE manage to wrench the scriptures away from us, and utterly destroy those written words, it would matter not, for the source of those words is IN OUR HEARTS and IN OUR MINDS! Thus, we have the significance of the "New Covenant" sealed by the shedding of Messiah's blood!
Don't Throw The Baby Out That NEW covenant of which I speak is clearly outlined by the writer to the Hebrews! Through reading the words I'm about to quote, we can see two things manifested at once. First, is the magnitude of the POWER we are being offered through OBEDIENCE and FAITH in the teachings and ministry of Yahshua Messiah, and SECOND we can clearly see the WICKED INTENT of those who have for centuries TRANSLATED those words to us in such a way as to ROB US of that POWER. We will take these verses ONE VERSE at a time, and look at what is being said to us, and then look at what the TRANSLATORS MADE IT TO SAY INSTEAD! Before we go further into this text one important FACT must be revealed. I am using for my reference the King James Version of the "Holy Bible." The reason I do this is NOT because the "supposed" accuracy of it's translation, but because the translators of King James place their own words and phrases into the text in ITALICS. These italicized words and phrases stick out like a BEACON! This is the very reason I stick to the King James Version like glue, because all I have to do is REMOVE the italicized words and phrases that were inserted by the interpretors and 99 percent of the time a NEW MEANING emerges from those texts! In NO OTHER PLACE in the Bible can this FACT be MORE DEMONSTRATED than in Hebrews Chapter 8: 6-13!
Hebrews 8: 6-13
"6 But now has he (Yahshua Messiah) obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much he is a mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises." Yahshua, the Messiah, obtained a "more excellent ministry," and through that ministry he has become the "mediator" or the "administrator" of a "stronger covenant" which is founded on "stronger" promises. There were NO italicized words or phrases in this verse, however the translators chose to use the word "better" two times, once in reference to the covenant, and the other in reference to the promises! The word from which they derived "better" (Kreitton- pronounced krite'-tohn) primarily means STRONGER and only means "better" in the figurative or NON-LITERAL sense, the writer of Hebrews was not speaking FIGURATIVELY HERE so the LITERAL MEANING SHOULD HAVE BEEN USED. The writer did not even MEAN "BETTER!" The translators of King James chose the figurative over the literal here, and in doing so nullified the COVENANT made between God and His People, Israel, the same covenant of which Moses was the MEDIATOR! The translators (in saying "better" rather than "stronger") somehow managed to GET RID of this Covenant and attempt to put SOMETHING NEW in it's place that they claim was "better"! However, the word "stronger" which should have been used DOES NOT lend itself to believe something is being replaced, but rather that something is being made STRONGER, something is being SUPPORTED! "7 For if the first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second." Here we have one of those italicized words that FOREVER CHANGE the MEANING of a very important text! The translators, by inserting the word "covenant" here have made the COVENANT OF MOSES itself FAULTY in some way, DEFECTIVE! Which is UTTERLY LUDICROUS because that COVENANT came forth directly from the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE who WILL NOT create ANYTHING FAULTY! They are, by inserting the word (covenant) in this verse, saying that GOD MADE A MISTAKE, which is IMPOSSIBLE, and in fact an HORRIBLE BLASPHEMY! Let's see what the verse says WITHOUT the italicized word! "7 For if the first had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. We can NOW, in the spirit of the Bereans, "search the scriptures," to determine for OURSELVES what is meant by "the first" and by "the second," in this verse! What "first" was faulty, and what "second" was sought to replace it? When you study the COVENANT, it becomes clear that it was NOT the COVENANT itself that was faulty, but it was THOSE TO WHOM THE COVENANT FIRST CAME! Hebrews 4: 1-6 1 Let us therefore fear, unless, a promise being left of entering into his rest (the sabbath rest- part of the first covenant) any of you should seem to come short of it 2 For to us was the gospel preached, as well as to them (those who did not believe) but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard. 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, AS I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest (the sabbath rest) although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he spoke in a certain place of the seventh day in this way, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6 Seeing therefore it remains that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief..." All through the letter of Hebrews he CONTINUALLY refers to those who "first received" the covenant, and their "failure" to observe that covenant! Hebrews 8 is no different! When he says "the first" he's not talking about the COVENANT, he's talking about those who FIRST received the covenant and then didn't live by it! I submit as ultimate proof of my hypothesis VERSES 8 and 9 of Hebrews 8!
"8 For finding fault with them he said, Behold the days come says the Lord when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: 9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not! When you REMOVE the italic word "covenant" out of verse 7, then consider the CONTEXT of Hebrews, whereby the "first" is always those who "first" received the covenant, then put verses 7, 8, and 9 together, it's clear that it's not the COVENANT with which God found fault, but Yahweh found fault with those to whom the covenant FIRST CAME! God is NOT REPLACING the COVENANT with a NEW COVENANT, he's providing a STRONGER COVENANT because those who first RECEIVED the COVENANT could NOT continue it! The covenant is NOT done away with, to the contrary, it is MADE STRONGER by the MINISTRY of MESSIAH. How? By delivering into the hands of them that believe the POWER to CONTINUE IN THAT SAME COVENANT! If we DISCARD the COVENANT because some wouldn't or couldn't KEEP IT, we would be throwing the baby out with the bath water! There is ONE more scripture we need to look at before we fully understand the intent of verses 7-9, and so that we can understand the meaning of verses 10- 13. 1 Corinthians 15:45-50 45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam a quickening spirit. 46 Howbeit, that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. 47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the SECOND MAN is the Lord from Heaven (or the Master RETURNING from Heaven) 48 As is the earthy, such they also that are earthy: and as the heavenly, such they also that are heavenly. 49 As we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. 50 now this I say, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither does corruption (or DECAY ) inherit incorruption. If you read 1 Corinthians 15:51-58 he describes HOW we decaying humans will receive IMMORTALITY, and HOW at the RETURN of the Master from Heaven we shall "put on immortality." Now, we can better understand what is meant in verse 7 of Hebrews 8! "7 For if that FIRST had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the SECOND." This is clearly a reference, NOT ONLY TO THEM WHO FIRST RECEIVED THE COVENANT and yet DID NOT CONTINUE in it, but is a reference to the FIRST man, the earthy MAN, the MORTAL MAN, and it's talking about how the SECOND ADAM comes to REPLACE the OLD WAY of "keeping the covenant." Again "the SECOND" is a reference to the SPIRITUAL MAN, the SECOND ADAM, who is Yahshua! In other words, if NO FAULT had been found with MANKIND, if the FIRST ADAM had NOT FALLEN, there would be NO NEED FOR THE SECOND! Once we understand this DOUBLE MEANING of verse 7, we then can continue on into Hebrews 8 and FULLY UNDERSTAND what it is trying to say! "10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God and they shall be to me a people:" This one verse PROVES that the LAW OF THE COVENANT is NOT DONE AWAY WITH, but rather is made STRONGER. Those same laws do not get nullified, but rather are PLACED INTO THE MINDS OF THOSE WHO BELIEVE, they are WRITTEN IN THE HEARTS of the believers. The same laws, the same covenant, just ADMINISTERED DIFFERENTLY. The first covenant was administered by MOSES, and written in TABLETS OF STONE, the second covenant is the SAME MOSES COVENANT, but this time made stronger by writing them on the STONES OF OUR HEARTS and in the MINDS of those who receive the COVENANT! Same covenant, just NEWLY administered in a STRONGER WAY! "11 For they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." When you have this RELATIONSHIP with God, through the Covenant administered in a NEW WAY, you KNOW THE LORD intimately! You don't need to be TAUGHT by tablets and commandments (or Torah Commentaries) how to PLEASE GOD, you do it from the HEART and IN YOUR MIND! ONLY THEN will your SINS be remembered NO MORE, because they ARE NO MORE! You obey, by VERY NATURE of your HEART AND MIND, (even as Yahshua did), and are COMPELLED to continue in this covenant by the POWER that is WITHIN YOU! Which is why the NEW is STRONGER than the OLD! The new covenant ENSURES that you OBEY THE OLD! "13 In that he says, A new covenant he has made the first old, Now that which decays and waxes old is ready to vanish away! AGAIN the translaters PLACE the word "covenant" in this verse ERRONEOUSLY, which sabotages the meaning." What this verse actually says is this: "13 In that he says, a NEW he has made the first old. Now that which decays and waxes old is ready to vanish away!" The NEW MAN, the SPIRITUAL MAN who is CREATED by this NEW COVENANT, (the writing of the LAW INTO THE HEART AND THE MIND) has made the FIRST MAN OLD. The earthy man, the FLESHLY MAN now waxes OLD and is ready to VANISH AWAY! Brothers and Sisters in Messiah, I have gone to great lengths to study the NEW COVENANT SCRIPTURES and to SHOW how the translator's italicized words change their meaning. I have done this so that I could underscore the RESPONSIBILITY of those who "turn to the scriptures" for the SOURCE OF THE LIGHT! The scriptures have been in the hands of MEN for thousands of years, and those men have changed some of them! However, the changes are INCIDENTAL to US who have the Holy Spirit, the SOURCE of those scriptures. Yahweh's OWN BREATH, His Holy Spirit, is now written in our hearts and in our MINDS! NOTHING can stop that NEW DAY of TRUTH from DAWNING! It begins in the HEART OF THE TRUE BELIEVER and then increases in GLORY until the RETURN OF YAHSHUA from HEAVEN to fight for those who HAVE THE TRUTH! THE KNIGHTS OF BEREA So, who are the "Knights of Berea?" They are all those who "search the scriptures, whether these things be so!" (Like the believers in Berea). We start FIRST with the SCRIPTURES on our journey for the TRUTH!
Acts 17: 10-12 "10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night to Berea: who coming there, went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. 12 Therefore, many of them believed; also of honorable women which were Greeks, and men, not a few!" The ONLY scriptures the Berean's had to "search" were the "tanakh" which are NOW being called the "OLD" Testament! It behooves EVERY TRUE BELIEVER to follow in the example of the Berean's, and weigh EVERY SINGLE WORD found in the "NEW" testament against those words found in the Tanakh! Those who do this are described in Acts as "NOBLE," thus I call all who do this "the KNIGHTS of Berea!" When you follow the example of the Berean's, and search the Tanakh, and BELIEVE, you receive the SPIRIT OF TRUTH, just as the Berean's did! Thus exposing all of the ERRORS that may have been inserted in the texts.
ANTI-MESSIAH SPIRIT Many will ask the obvious question: "if the scriptures have been so tampered with, how can we trust them, and how can we look to them for truth?" As I said before, those scriptures did not COME from the will of men, but were given by the HOLY SPIRIT, and that SPIRIT now LIVES IN THE TRUE BELIEVER! So, when we DO search the scriptures, we do so with SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT! Anyone who tries to STOP US from doing so is working AGAINST the CROSS of MESSIAH, and is in FACT ANTI-MESSIAH! You, being born first a fleshly, earthly man, must be conformed INTO the image of the SPIRITUAL MAN who is the SECOND ADAM, Yahshua Messiah. This can ONLY be done by the HOLY SPIRIT in your HEART! Thus, the SPIRIT enters the FLESH, the OLD MAN, and transforms him to the image and LIKENESS of the NEW! Any teaching or spirit that tries to TURN you from this is the SPIRIT OF ANTI-MESSIAH! Any spirit that denies that you HAVE this SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT and TELLS YOU THAT YOU CANNOT examine a spiritual TEACHING of MEN and say "that cannot be right," well that spirit is DENYING the POWER that is WITHIN YOU, WITHIN YOUR FLESHLY MIND AND HEART! Such a SPIRIT or TEACHING DENIES THE POWER OF GOD which is the POWER to transform you into the IMAGE of RIGHTEOUSNESS! Yahshua Messiah LIVES IN YOU through the CONNECTION you have with him through the HOLY SPIRIT, even as The Father LIVED IN YAHSHUA! In fact, since it is the SPIRIT which gives you your new life and transforms you, actually, THE FATHER lives in you, in the same way He lived in Yahshua! The AntiMessiah spirit set out from the beginning to destroy this connection! We were warned of this battle early on! 1 John 2:26-29 "26 These things have I written to you concerning them that seduce you. 27 But the anointing (the Holy Spirit) which you have received of him ABIDES IN YOU, and you need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it has taught you, you shall abide in Him. 28 And now, little children, abide in him: that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. 29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that every one that does righteousness is born of him. Brothers and sisters, the issue from beginning to end is RIGHTEOUSNESS! We KNOW that ANY translation (or interpretation) of NEW TESTAMENT that attempts to TURN YOU AWAY from TRUE RIGHTEOUS LIVING CANNOT BE TRUE! This is the case in the example of Hebrews 8. The inserted word "covenant" says that the OLD COVENANT is FAULTY, DECAYING, and is "passed away," or DEAD! In doing this they lead you AWAY from DOING RIGHTEOUSNESS, and we KNOW that all who DO RIGHTEOUSNESS are born of God. The writer of the Epistle of 1 John did NOT stop there, however, but further clarified how we shall keep from being deceived! 1 John 4:1-8 "1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know you the Sprit of God: Every sprit that confesses that Yahshua Messiah is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesses not that Yahshua Messiah is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that of antimessiah, whereof you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God: he that knows God hears us; he that is not of God hears not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He that does not love, does not know God; for God is love. My friends, any SPIRIT (spiritual teaching) that tries to make you doubt that SPIRITUAL CONNECTION between you and The Father, which is LOVE, the Holy Spirit of LOVE, and any SPIRIT who tries to make you doubt that Yahshua Messiah is IN YOU, that is IN YOUR FLESH, LITERALLY, not just FIGURATIVELY, that is the spirit of antimessiah! Do you NOT KNOW that we are the BODY of MESSIAH? Anyone who denies that Yahshua Messiah is IN US is denying that he is IN HIS BODY! They make him a GHOST! Which could be WHY the Holy Spirit is often MISTRANSLATED to the phrase "Holy Ghost" in the King James!" We earthly, fleshly men have now the LIVING LOVING SPIRIT of GOD HIMSELF, and as such, we are ONE WITH THE FATHER, and we are ONE WITH MESSIAH! The MESSIAH lives IN US, and THROUGH US, IF we abide in HIS LOVE through OBEDIENCE! The obedience is the KEY. Take away that (which is what the Sons of Perdition have attempted to do) and you take away OUR LIFE!
THE EFFECT OF THE So, this LIGHT, arising in our hearts will have a transforming effect upon us and we will be remade in the IMAGE of YAHWEH! What will this ARISING do to them who walk in disobedience? 2 Peter 2 "1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privately shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Master that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through coveteousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgement now of a long time lingers not, and their damnation slumbers not. 4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast down to hell, and delivered into chains of darkness, to be reserved to judgement 5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah, the eighth, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condenmed with an overthrow, making an example to those that afterward should live ungodly; 7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, a vexed righteous soul from day to day with unlawful deeds;) 9 the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust to the day of judgment to be punished: 10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptious, selfwlled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. 11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. 12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; 13 and shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots, and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; 14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that CANNOT CEASE FROM SIN; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children. 15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbade the madness of the prophet 17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. 18 For when they speak great swelling vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 19 while they promise them LIBERTY, THEY THEMSELVES ARE THE SERVANTS OF CORRUPTION: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world, through the knowledge of the Master and Saviour, Yahshua Messiah, they are AGAIN ENTANGLED THEREIN AND OVERCOME, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than after they have known it TO TURN FROM THE HOLY COMMANDMENT delivered to them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire." Here 2 Peter chapter 2 DESCRIBES the FALSE TEACHERS who would sit at table with those who follow Yahshua and condemn themselves with their disobedience! Now, let's look at their FINAL END! 2 Thessalonians 2:8 "8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Master shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:" Why will they be consumed? What is their great FLAW that causes the NEW DAY TO BURN THEM UP? 2 Thessalonians 2: 12 "12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but HAD PLEASURE IN UNRIGHTEOUSNESS!" My brethren and friends, I have written such a very long and indepth article covering a lot of scriptures here. I have done this for several reasons! First, I wanted to show you the OVERWHELMING scriptural evidence there is to support the belief that we CAN AND WILL LEARN TO STOP SINNING. Secondly, I have decided that the warnings of 2 Peter are the CALL OF THE HOUR! If you HOLD DEAR to the the Deity of "Christ," and the FALSE NOTION that we can NEVER LIVE WITHOUT SINNING, and you go about saying that YOU CAN NEVER WALK HOLY IN THIS LIFE, and that the LAW and the COMMANDMENTS are NOT FOR TODAY, and that your FAITH ALONE WILL SAVE YOU, I WARN YOU NOW IN THE SPIRIT OF LOVE TO READ 2 PETER 2 AGAIN for it is DESCRIBING YOU! THEN READ THE FINAL END OF THE WICKED IN REVELATION FOR THAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE FATE! For many who stumble onto this web site by accident and read this article, I tell you now, this may be your LAST WARNING! For those of my fellow "Knights of Berea" who search the scriptures, and thus find the truth through believing and a heart of obedience, I say to you only this! KEEP THE FAITH!
