Week 3 Highlights

With raindrops on the windows and the Sears Tower in the clouds, the third week of the Summer Success Seminar began on a warm, rainy, Monday morning.
The flowers in the flower gardens were in full bloom, perhaps foreshadowing the academic blooming of the SSS students.
It was unusually quiet in SSB this Monday, perhaps since it was the 3rd of July. Even the popular Oasis lounge was empty!
But true to the spirit of the Summer Success Seminar, the sound of happy students filled 250BSB.
SSS Co-ordinator Jose Antonio Arellano carries in some material to be given to the students.
9:00AM! Time for the session to begin. Jose Antonio welcomes the students.
As Jose Antonio calls the name of each student, each is asked to come down to the front of the room to pick up
Now, down to the business at hand...
The subject of today's session was "Angel's Town", written by UIC's own...
Prof. Ralph Cintron.
Jose Antonio set up the structure for the discussion.
One must define the terms used in a discussion before meaningful dialogue can take place.
The students were told to separate into 6 smaller discussion groups.
Some groups sat in 250BSB while others sought the privacy of the smaller BSB classrooms.
Jose Antonio joined in the discussions. He made it a point to talk with all the groups.
After the group discussion sections were finished, all the students were asked to take seats near the front of 250BSB. Jose Antonio fired off question after question, keeping the students on their intellectual toes.
Some students asked Ixta for comments and suggestions on their English assignments.
The central themes of "Angel's Town" are explored.
Walls....and what goes on walls....
Will you be "confined" or will you "break out"?
Jose Antonio issued the challenge to the students.."Will you do what is necessary to succeed?"
Inspired by those words the students made their way out of 250BSB.Monday
